Doge's Palace Reservation

If I visit the Doge's Palace and don't take the Secret Itinerary Tour, do I still need to make reservations ahead of time? If I book online at http://www.alata.it/eng/musei/musei.asp they charge me now plus a service fee. Should I wait to book the Doge' Palace until I arrive in Venice in October? I know I can buy a ticket in a supposedly shorter line at the Correr Museum.

I followed Rick Steves's advice and got a museum PASS. In my case, at Burano Lace Museum because of the order of visit I chose. After using the pass at Burano and Murano museums, I walked up to the turnstyle at Doge's Palace and walked in with no reservations.

We had no difficlty,or long lineups, to purchsae tickets without reservations in October 2004.

Hi, book6783. Just wondering when you'll be in Venice. I arrive on Oct. 25 and depart on the 28th. If you're there at the same time, would you like to meet up for a drink/dinner? I'll be in Florence Oct. 20-25, as well.
