Does this Italian Itinerary sound ok?
HI,
My fiance and I will be going on our honeymoon to Italy in July. Does this itinerary sound ok? Please critic.
3 nights in Venice - Luna Baglioni
4 nights in Rome - Regina Baglioni
4 nights in Capri - Caesar Augustus
3 nights in Positano - Villa Franca
Should I make any changes? Any suggestions are welcomed.
Thanks!

Well I would add Florence and reduce the time in Capri/Positano - probably staying in one and visiting the other in a day trip - but that's me. It all depends on what your interests are - and your plan certainly is doable for someone with a strong interest in beaches/resorts.

HI,
Thanks for your replies. We will be flying out of JFK into Venice and flying out of Rome back to JFK.
I was on the tripadvisor website and Luna Baglioni didn't get good reviews recently. Where else would you recommend we stay. I was looking at the Londra Palace and Palazzo Sant'Angelo.
Also, why is it too many nights in Capri. Where should I add the extra day if I take it from Capri?
Thanks!

Ms. Bumblebea, I suggest you stay the four nights in Capri, this is your honeymoon and what better place to stay than on Capri? At night it is so romantic and in the day you can take romantic walks AWAY from the main squares. Get a map of Capri and you will find many places to walk and just absorb the beauty of the island and reflect on your new life together.
You can look at paintings in Florence on an anniversary trip later.

Should I shorten the time in Venice and add Florence. Also, we were thinking of using the train to get from city to city. Should be rent a car instead? One more question, how do I get to Positano from Rome. What's the distance?
Sorry for all my questions.

Hi, Bumblebea! Sounds like we are both honeymoon planning. . . folks on my thread have been very helpful thus far. Here is a link that was given to me that answers a million questions about planning a trip to Italy. . .they cover how to get to Positano from Rome.
Italy http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34443340
If that link doesn't work, go to the thread that is "First Time to Italy - Rome to Amalfi Coast" and it is in there from Ira. . . .
(I think the answer to your last question is. . . take the train from Rome to Naples, then ferry from Naples to Sorrento and then take the SITA bus from Sorrento to Positano. . . but I'm just learning!)

From Rome to Positano-
After you get from Rome to Naples by Trenitalia train, it will be easier to take the Circumvesuviana train from Naples to Sorrento rather than the ferry. By train, you don't have to get from Naples train station to the ferry dock. And also from Sorrento, the train station is at the same location as SITA bus, whereas the ferry dock in Sorrento isn't.

Here's one solution:
3 n Venice as before;
train, 4 h 47 mins to Orvieto for 1 n (Orvieto is a delightful hilltown an hr north of Rome);
train, 3 hrs 15 mins to Naples from Orvieto; grab local commuter train there to Sorrento (1 - 1.5 hrs). Ferry to Capri from Sorrento, stay 3 n.
Positano 3 n.
back to Rome for 4 n and your flight home to JFK.

I for one wouldn't change a thing with your itinerary. Florence may seem like a striking omission, but if you don't have a burning desire to do it, I wouldn't worry about it. You'll be back to Italy and you can do Florence and Tuscany then (along with the Lakes).
That's not too long in Capri and I think it's a smart idea. Do the reverse of what others do. Maybe do a day trip to Sorrento or Naples. Or do a day trip to Ischia. But having four romantic moonlit nights in Capri couldn't possibly be too many for a honeymoon!

Hi, just a little nudge from me, stick to your original plans in my opinion. I think it is perfect for a honeymoon, don't get too caught up in trying to see all of the main sites of Italy on this trip, you will drive yourself nuts.
Relax, go with your plans which look just perfect and have a great time.

Hi bumblebea,
I suggest one less night on Capri because it is a small island and you can only do so much.
I would add one night to Positano so that you can visit the other spots along the Amalfi Coast.
I think Sue has a very good idea about itinerary. You can take the ferry from Naples to Capri.
See http://www.naples-city.info/english.htm
Since it is your honeymoon, I suggest that you hire a limo to take you from Positano to Naples to get the train to Rome.
Have a great time.

Do not shorten Venice--3 full days there are not enough to see even the major sights, and you probably don't even have 3 full days as it stands.
7 days on and around the Amalfi coast is quite a long time, though, if you want relaxation and down time, it will be fine.
