Does Priceline work for Paris hotels?? Your opinions needed.
 

I read in a recent post that someone said Pricleine is good for 4-5 star hotels like Westin. Then someone else said no they changed the requirments. I looked it up and saw 5 star is a choice, would Westin be in this range? I would love to stay there or comparable at a good rate but am afraid I will be stuck. Any tricks?? What are the odds, I thought they would be pretty good. It is hard when so much money is at stake. Can you cancel later on?? Help! And thank you!

5* is probably a choice on Priceline if you are using the Priceline non-bidding site. This site is like any other hotel booking site where you can see the hotel and the price.

For Paris, 5* is not a choice if you are bidding on Priceline, or at least it wasn't when I rechecked it this afternoon. Did you check the "name your own price" (bidding) section of Priceline?

I also posted about the elimination of the 4* Plus bidding option in Paris, which used to be available at least a few months ago.

At any rate, so far as I can tell, you cannot bid for anything above a 4* hotel on Priceline in Paris, so your chances of getting the Westin are now very slim.

Hotwire might work for you, though.

My understanding with Priceline bidding is that it is non-refundable after completion of the deal, so you cannot cancel. (or you can cancel, but you'll eat the expense of your accepted bid).

To learn more about bidding on Priceline, go to www.biddingfortravel.com. You will see what hotels have been awarded in Paris and how people bid for them. Once you place your bid and they find a hotel for your price, you may not cancel or get a refund.

Also, the "owner" of bidding for travel seems to have disappaered. As a result, things don't seem as updated. (However, on the positive side you get far fewer nasty posts... take the good with the bad)_

There is no such thing as a 5 star hotel in France which may be one reason for the change on Priceline. The official categories in France are 4 Star and 4 Star Luxe. 4 Star Luxe would be like a 5 star basically.

Thank you so much for al of your advice. I get worried sine I am trying to get resonable priced rooms in the area by the Opera without going broke. For me and 5 friends, this has been tricky. I would love to staqy at the Westin or a more reasonable Hotel Monge (though not available). Thanks again!!

No, the recent change at Priceline for Paris is the elimination of the 4*Plus category. So, top you can bid for is 4* now. And the Westin used to be in the 4* Plus. Meaning one probably won't get it now using PL.

for 6 people you'd have to get 3 rooms all at the same property. If it were me, I'd look for a 3 bdrm apartment - it might cost a bit more than 3 rooms on PL but you'll get a lot more space.
