We tend to stick with the local draught beer because it is so good - I particularly like some of the dark beers. Wine is however widely available but I have no particlar recomendations for that.

And one must consider matching drink to food, mustn't one? Czech beer is the best to accomany those Bohemian, Habsburg, dishes!

Hi A,

Do you mean as in "Does Bordeaux have good wine?" or as in "Can one get drinkable wine in Prague?".

No.

Yes.

You can buy foreign wine at some restaurants in Prague, but the local Czech wine is terrible, as far as I'm concerned. blech....

It is actually a little difficult to get good wine in the cheaper places, as they tend to carry Czech wine, rather than Spanish, Italian, etc.

oh, if you do want to try Czech wine, I think the whites are superior to the reds. Any cheaper red from Spain, Portugal or Italy will be better (not to mention S America).

Still, the majority of Czech wines are not top notch. I wouldn't buy Czech table wine unless you really know what you are doing.

I'll be in Prague in a couple of weeks. Here is a website I found that might interest you.

For those who know Czech beers, which one (or ones) stand out. Thanks.

Places with good beer or wine generally have a good international reputation for them and are big wine exporters.

For example: France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Western US, New zealand, and Austrailia are good bets for wine.

Likewise, Belgium, Czech Republic, UK, Germany, and others have a reputation for their beer and export it heavily.

So...you can get very good wine in Prague, but not good Czech wine. I tried many times ordering the most expensive Czech wines - all were awful. Just my opinion.

I also tried countless differnt Czech beers and LOVED each and every one.

I am generally more of a wine than a beer drinker.

It's possible someone else may have a different opinion. Maybe you need to know a particulay vineyard or bottler to get a good Czech wine. On the other hand, you don't need to be a beer expert to get a great Czech beer.

Just my experience, FWIW.

Great thanks! You've answered all my questions!

You can get good wine in Prague - but it's not local - it;s imported and won't be cheap. The local beer on the other hand is superb.

I suggest matching the drink to the food - whichever you choose.

I like the following Czech wines:

Frankovka
Zweigeltrebe
Rulandské modré

The Great and Powerful Thingorjus
