I'm with you, danon. I'm happiest in a big city and the city of my heart will always be London. There was just something special there for me that made me feel immediately at home.

I do think Paris is prettier but London is my city.

Second would be New York.

danon May 6th, 2017 06:52 PM

interes...not Internet..lol

I love Madrid , especially Salamanca district.
...something about it feels just right.
( I speak Spanish)

I fell in love with Paris as a child and moved here 2 days after I finished university.

Since it is home, and even though there is "no place like home," I am contantly drawn to Southeast Asia, both the cities and the backwaters.

Just one remark about Paris.

Notwithstanding any other consideration, Paris is a nightmare for families.

Overcrowded, small (so expensive) it drives a lot of amilies outside its walls.

For young couples, couples with no kids or older people it is just paradise.

hetismij2 May 6th, 2017 11:42 PM

I have never been to Paris. It holds zero appeal for me.

Keren May 7th, 2017 01:46 AM

No. It used to be my favourite, I visited 10 times between 2003-2013 and haven't been back since. I will be back for sure but I'm taking a break for now.
I used to think there's no city I could like better or enjoy
the same way.
But I was wrong. I've managed to visit and enjoyed many others, before and after Paris and don't have a favourite anymore. I enjoy different things in different towns now, and don't expect to find Paris in Genoa, for example.

I've lived here half the year for twenty years so don't see Paris the way many others do. I've liked watching Paris change over time, the infrastructure investment, the building of new neighborhoods, the demographic change in my own. Paris is a dynamic place to be.

Paris is beautiful but Rome is for me. Although I have just started an affair with Madrid.

We noticed how few metro stations have escalators or elevators
Must be hard for kids to walk the long corridors and climb many steps.

I wonder how disabled ( or very old )people manage in the metro/RER system.

I go to Asia for work and vacations but I find myself longing for Europe, especially Paris, London, Florence...

Paris is just so special!

Loacker, yes it does. I backpacked around the world when I was 30, lived in Prague for a year, and now, 20-plus years later I've been to Paris 15 times, and will be visiting again this summer, after a hiking trip in England. A few years ago I decided I needed a break from Paris, as my previous two trips had seen solid rain every day (June and September). So I spent two weeks in Italy (I'd been three times before, but not since the early '90s). And while I had a lovely time, I kept thinking about Paris. Other than Paris, I don't enjoy vacationing in big cities. But ... like others have said, Paris stole my heart and my joy in being there doesn't come from tick-the-box places.

I find I always miss Paris and feel like I have so much unfinished business there. It is the measuring stick by which all other destinations are measured by. That said I have loved so many other destinations, as well, but Paris just stays with me and I never tire of it.

Paris gets into your soul and somehow after a year or 2 one just feels the need to return Seeing all the sights again is lilke seeing them for the first time. I always say "We will always have Paris"

nola77382 May 7th, 2017 02:03 PM

I love and enjoy many big cities, like London and Rome and Prague, but Paris is the only one that calls me, like a siren, to return. It's always my first choice when planning a trip. We go elsewhere and I enjoy it but a piece of me always wishes I was in Paris. Sigh.

lrock5 May 7th, 2017 06:11 PM

Yes I am completely ruined. We will be there again in June for 12 nights and can't wait.

muskoka May 7th, 2017 06:21 PM

It isn't just the ambiance that seals Paris for me; I love the language, and no matter where I am in Europe, I always want to be back in Paris.

kelsey22 May 7th, 2017 06:27 PM

I have been to Paris twice. I was 26 the first time. I was 49 the second time. I loved Paris both times. The seond time it stole my heart. It might seem oversentimental but I woke up each morning and couldn't wait to wander the streets and take in the sights. I loved everything about it. The crowds didn't even bother me. I could go on and on but if you are a Paris lover, you get it.

There have been other cities: Nice, York, Dublin...but none like Paris.

docdan May 7th, 2017 06:47 PM

"I wonder how disabled ( or very old )people manage in the metro/RER system."

Answer: they take the bus. One overlooked Paris fact, with all the attention given to navigating metro/RER, etc., is that Paris' bus system is a very good system on it's own merit. The poster of the above quote is correct: some Metro stations can double as aerobic work-out venues, with all the steps to climb AND you can't see the city from underground! any visitor to Paris should try one or two trips by bus, a very lovely was to see this lovely city.

To me Paris is the world's penultimate city. I visited it with DW and teenagers in tow and we loved it, and would like to return, however, after a week, we were sort of "Parised-out" and enjoyed a brief diversion through the low countries, which was also lovely.

".... Paris isn't a list of must-sees you cross off your list. It's a "mode de vie", a place you can never get enough of."

Personally, I can easily get enough of Paris although I've been going there regularly since 1976. But, I go to see Parisian friends, shop, take in a few exhibits, go to exhibits on fashion and ethnic art and then I'm ready to go. I much prefer Bangkok and a lot of other places in S.E. Asia over Paris for top service, convenience, great food, shopping, various sites, architecture, really helpful and friendly people and great accomodations. Plus, the S.E. Asian version of "mode de vie."

Happy Travels!

Loacker May 8th, 2017 12:54 AM

Guenmai, I like Bangkok for the same reasons. The customer service is impeccable, and you can stay at five-star hotels for a fraction of what they cost in Europe. Also you have beautiful islands just a short flight away.
But in terms of beauty, culture, and style, Paris blows Bangkok out of the water. Bangkok is just not pleasant to walk around. Too chaotic and too humid all year long. The Chao Pra river is so dirty, the Seine looks drinkable in comparison.
