Does Munich have a "grand opening" celebration for the Christkindlmarket?
We are planning on arriving in Munich on Nov. 27th, one day before the Xmas markets begin (this year they start on Friday the 28th).
Since we'll have one low key day to get over our jetlag and see some sights, we'd like to spend a lot of time at the Xmas markets on the day the open. Does anyone know if they do anything special on opening day, like have a parade or a procession or anything? If we're going to be there then I'd like to not miss it.
Thanks

I should know since I live in Munich.
But I do not remember anything more spectacular than an opening ceremony with a speech from the mayor, or something similar boring.
I'm almost 100 percent sure that there is nothing grand like a parade or procession.

We were there in 2005 for the opening - no parade, etc. - There was music, a speach by the mayor, the lighting of the tree and probably the biggest crush of people I have ever been in. With that said, it was wonderful and I wish we were going to be there this year. Enjoy!
