does it matter what name is on a train ticket?
 

Hi all, Accidently printed an e ticket for my son with my name on it. Will this be a problem (we both have the same last name)? And if so, what can I do about it?

In my experience it matters not who purchased the ticket or what name is on the receipt.

Where is your son traveling?

It matters if you used a card that gives you discount (children, 12-25...)since you have to justify the discount, but otherwise... :-)

Depends on the ticket.

If it is a full fare ticket, No.

If it is a discount ticket, yes.

For example, a PREMS ticket from SNCF, requires name of traveler and is not transferable.

Also, most tickets will require that the passenger has the same CC that was used to buy the ticket for validation.

What kind of train ticket is this, for which country?

It is an Amica ticket bought online through the Treniltalia website. He is traveling from Florence to Orvieto. The ticket states in the top right corner...Name of Traveler (and clearly he is not a Nancy) LOL We DO have the same last name though, and he will have id with him.

The piece of paper you have is not the actual ticket. For the Amica purchased as an e-ticket all you need to give the conductor is the confirmation number. I wrote mine on a piece of paper and handed it to the conductor on the train.

I can't say whether he looked at the names in his handheld computer or not or just cared if there were 4 passengers with paid-for seats, and checked adult/child #'s. We did not have to show any ID.

Ok then, is sounds like the conductor is mainly concerned with the ticket code #. This "e ticket" is for an Intercity train with a reserved seat. It also has a barcode on it. Would this "ticket" then be scanned at some point? Or is everything already in the conductor's computer?

I bought an Amica fare for Rome-Venice - the confirm. had only my name and specified 4 passengers. There was no problem with the conductor.
