Does D'Aubusson ever respond?
We've now sent two unanswered email inquiries.
Do we give up? Is faxing better? Should I go through a travel agent? Seems like we're not the only one who've had this problem.

Our other options are Buci Latin and Au Manoir de St. Germain des pres...This is for our honeymoon in August. Want to keep it around $200/night or less.
|
This is a common experience for me also. I think the hotels get so many junk inquiries and can't or don't care to respond to all. Faxing would not be any better since it now costs them additional phone charge to send you a reply.

If you really want this hotel, call them directly avoiding checkin and checkout rush hours.
|
Email servers can be down, or perhaps no one is checking it.
I always do well with faxes, even receive faxes back with the info that they have no rooms available.

Or call, but call during their daytime hours. The night shift doesn't always have the authority or the expertise to book rooms.

I received e-mail replies to at least two different requests of D'Aubusson. I believe one took a couple of days, however. I spent most of last week annoying the staff of D'Aubbusson in person, so they may not have had much time! :-)

I got the least expensive roon (as far as I know) and it was 250 E or about $230 US.

Buci Latin looked good to me as I walked by several times. It's very well located. Have fun.

I think I'd forget about it if I were you. I always thought D'Aubusson seemed overpriced for what it was. Just today there was a trip report and the woman liked the hotel because they were nice and got them a fan since their air-conditioning wouldn't work (there's a recommendation for you!), their safety plugs wouldn't work, and the hair dryer was too weak. In addition she mentions that the rooms aren't very luxurious. For that kind of money you can do much better, and also find a hotel that values your business enough to answer you. Haven't stayed at LeRegent almost next door, but it receives numerous raves here and is less expensive -- even for their large and deluxe rooms I believe.

Just to clarify, I'm the lady refered to above and I did NOT say the A/C didn't work. I said it wasn't up to my (Wisconsin-ite) husband's standards. I was perfectly comfortable. I'm usually freezing after Jeff gets through with the thermostat. He has complained bitterly at hotels all over the US including the Waldorf Astoria.

Perhaps I should have been more clear.

I don't know if xxx actualy stayed at the d'Aubusson but my impression is only of excellence. I've been to Paris a lot, I've stayed in several different hotels, from budget to more luxurious, and the d'Aubusson was one of the best hotels for me.
I can't comment on the a/c because I stayed there in winter, but I found their service and amenities to be a very good value vis-a-vis their prices, which are not low.
Everything about the hotel was fresh and clean and attractive, as if it had been redecorated the day before we got there. Our room was one of the largest I've had in Paris, even compared to hotels where I spent more money per night. The breakfast was pricey but top quality. Our outlets all worked, our hairdryer worked beautifully, and extra luxury touches like bathrobes, toiletries, tv speaker in the bathroom, seating area in the bedroom, etc were much appreciated. The staff was always accommodating, responded to my faxes before our arrival, made dinner reservations for us and later confirmed them, called taxis for us, and sold the museum pass in the lobby at face value.

I'm not saying there aren't decent hotels in Paris for less money, just that the d'Aubusson was a very good experience for us.
I booked a room through www.hotelboulevard.com. They had an excellent service, but they may take a day to respond due to the time difference. I thought this hotel was charming, friendly, and certainly luxurious for the price. We stayed in a deluxe room, which may have made the difference. The location cannot be beat, as it is a stone's throw away from the River Seine, as well as the heart of St. Germain. The lobby bar and lounge area is romantic and the staff is incredibly helpful. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Wow, thanks for all the info.
Now the dilemma: do we hold out for a "standard" room at the d'Aubusson, which we can just squeak our on our budget (it's 250 euros) or go for a better room at a lesser hotel (Buci Latin, Au Manoir, Relais St. Jacques, Clos des Medicis, etc.)?

Decisions, decisions....
|
Whenever we make reservations at any hotel,I always like to actually speak to the reservations people.I just feel more secure, then I ask them to email me the confirmation. That way I have something in hand.Although it has never been our experience for any hotel to not honor a reservation. So my advice would be just call them!

greg
Despite my rousing endorsement of the d'Aubusson, it is often a good idea to take the best room in a lesser hotel rather than the least expensive room in a better hotel. Like MJS I too stayed in a "deluxe" room at the d'Aubusson, so I can't absolutely say that I would have been as thrilled with the space and amenities of a standard room, the other great aspects of the hotel notwithstanding.

Greg-
I stayed at Le Clos de Medicis earlier this month. Loved it. It's very nice and well-maintained. The rooms are clean. The hotel is in a central location - very close to restaurants, shops, and clubs. Around the corner from Luxembourg Gardens, a 5-min walk to the Pantheon, and a 10-min walk to Notre Dame. The staff is very friendly and helpful and they all speak English.

I haven't been to the D'Aubisson, so I can't compare them for you. BTW-Le Clos de Medicis does return e-mails w/in 24 hours.

Greg,
Don't mean to confuse you more, but if you don't hear soon from the D'Aubusson, you might consider the Madison (that is if rms are still available there for Aug). While it's not a 4 star, it didn't impress us as a "lesser" hotel by much at all. The deluxe doubles (a few with walk out balcony) set away from the street but overlooking the Place St. Germain at 230 euros, including full American style buffet brkf., are quite large even by American standards and have snazzy, very attractive new baths (tons of deluxe toiletries, phone, double sink but no robes). Rms are fashionably decorated with antiques, super lighting and lovely fabrics, have safe, mini-bar, rm service, trouser press, tons of storage in huge closet, CNN, all the amenities you could possibly want. Plus the location in the heart of the 6th, a stone's throw from Deux Magots, Cafe de Flore, great shopping, metro, is really superb. A few blocks more from the Seine but supremely comfortable and with full concierge services and internet access in lobby (but for 10 euros an hr). We booked by email.
A 3 star, yes, and not quite as "romantic" but with lots of 4 star touches and a solid repeat (and smart looking) clientele.

I did like the elegant looks and feel of the D'Aubusson very much, but we just couldn't go 70 euros higher for their superior double (ran 297.28 euros in March) or the deluxe with loft at 350.

Just a thought...

I'm a Buci fan. Note they will be changing their name to Arturshotel soon. I agree with the Madison suggestion. I checked it out as a possible backup. It definitely looks good.

I have emailed the Hotel D'Aubusson for an enquiry and they replied within a couple of days. I even sent another email to them with questions I had and they replied. Yes, it did take about three or four days but I did get a reply. I looked at the email and it's from a specific person so maybe if you don't get an answer the person your email was sent to is not there. You can try again.
|
you might want to give them a call directly. they tried to send me my confirmation via email but they typed it wrong so i didn't get it till today. as for the prices..there's a summer special going on. if you go onto their website directly you see the summer specials.
