In Italy, children aged 4 to 12 pay the child fare. Children under four go free but are not entitled to a seat.

>>>Does child under 6 years old need to buy a train tickets from Rome to Rome Airport?<<<

Tickets must be validated in the yellow machines trackside before boarding. Any train tickets that don't include seats assignments (such as the airport train) must be validated.

From Trenitalia:

>>>Reductions for children
Children younger than 4 years travel free of charge in both first and second class but are not entitled to a seat. Children who are still under the age of 12 years (the day after their birthday is also included), can occupy a place at a reduction of 50%, and of 30% for the services in WL and CC.
Children under 12 years must be accompanied by an adult.

ATTENTION: Different conditions may apply in the regions by the regional/provincial fares.

I'm not aware of a child price on the airport train. Since a ticket is 14€, if there are several of you, it might cost about the same to book a limo service. Rome Shuttle Limousine has good prices. 40€ for 3 people or 50€ for 5. They will pick you up at your hotel so you avoid the cost of a taxi to the train station too.

Gavin - you may care to note the special provisions for the fast train from Termini to Fiumicino airport, the Leonardo Express, which are shown here....

Thanks Peter! Have not seen that info before. Even though I've clicked around on the Trenitalia sites lots of times, I've never seen those airport info links.

We are all assuming hkchemsir is departing from Termini which may not be the case. The Leonardo Express is between Termini and FCO. If you are departing from other train stations in Rome (Tiburtina, S. Pietro, Trastevere, etc.), prices/rules will be different. It may still be more economical to book the shuttle depending on the size/age of your party and if you must hire a taxi to the trains station.

You also have the Sit Bus Shuttle option from Termini to FCO - 8€.
