Does anyone know of any close beaches located around Rome?

I would like to do a day trip from Rome this June - close to the coast.

If anyone has been, could you tell me how to get there, how far it is from Termini, and what the area is like - in terms of water, sand/rocks, and tourists?

Thanks for your help fellow Fodorites!

The closest coastal town/shore/beach is Fiumicino, right outside The Rome Airport. You might want to do a google search to see if it is worthwhile to visit there. ((b))

I've been to the lido of Ostia and it is an experience! Tourists there are Italians and maybe a wayward German or two. Go, I think you will enjoy it.

I second Ostia. It is an easy day trip from Rome to the ruins at Ostia. I remember it is about 30 min. by train. The ruins are very extensive and after about 2-3 hours I had enough and we went to the next stop which was on the water. The train lets you off about 3 blocks from the water. We had a nice lunch on the water and sat on the beach. The beach is is nice and sandy not pebbly like Nice.
