Does anyone else go to the same places over and over?

I just got back from a trip to Germany and Austria. As I was explaining t oa friend where I went, I realized how many times I had been to the same places - Rothenburg (3), Salzburg (4), Neuschwanstein (3), and Rhine gorge (4, 2 specifically at Bacharach). The only new place was Stuttgart which I had only visited the train station previously. In France I visited the Loire Valley three times, twice staying at the same hotels!

This summer was the first since 1961 that I hadn't been to Carlsbad, CA (OK, I did go this year in Oct.!)

Perhaps what's worse, my next trip I have mentally planned takes me again to the Loire, and another trip to Germany/Austria would again go to Salzburg (and stay at the same farm).

Does anyone else suffer from this affliction?

Yes but we are trying to correct that. We have spent a great deal of time in Spain. Although we have family there and love the country, we should be seeing the rest of the world.

I've been to Paris 9/10 times, London 3/4 times...Yet..have not seen everythign I want to.

In the last few years I've been to new spots. Partly to get away from the 'comfortable' and have that experience of seeing something for the first time.

Like hearing the call to prayer for first time ever in front of Hagia Sofia in Istanbul...or going to a market in Accra Ghana, safari in Tanzania. Ephesus...

There are places that will always be special, but I feel need to broaden my view of the world.

Places like Paris are almost like going home.

Yup. 108 trips to France and another one planned. Italy at least a dozen times. Morocco and North Africa a handful. But I have branched out as well. I need to get to more of Asia.

After spending years including London on my trips I've spent the last several including Paris. I love both cities and I have a tendency to want to know them intimately. I also like the ease in vacationing someplace where you know your way around, have favorite restaurants and neighborhoods, etc.

I do, however, try to include a new place when possible. This year I'm going to the South of France in the middle of a trip that includes a few days in Venice (been there a few times already) and ending with a few days in Paris.

I plagarized Michael_Paris' response. I have been to Puerto Vallarta 6 times, Cabo 8.......I'm ready to try something new. After reading several threads on the Mexico board, Stewbear has convinced me I need to see Zihuatenejo. One of my travel companions doesn't like to get out of his comfort zone, wants to go to the same place, same time, eat at the same restaurants. I can only do that for so long, then I get bored.

I am going to Greece and Spain this summer~those are both new.

I guess I am opposite of many posters here

We've essentially seen the entire world, have gone to all continents except Antartica and have gone somewhere new every year for years, although we've inserted our favs in ( always try to work in Paris either coming and going from a new destination for example)

But now that we are so satisfied with seeing so much of the world, now we are settling into one place for an extend period of time as our vacations.

Yes. Paris, London and Vienna. No plans to quit going to any of them but Vienna is lagging, haven't been in 5 or 6 years.

Venice is for me a constant temptation. We do try to include somewhere new each time we go, Rovigo on the next trip, up the Brenta on a burchiello on the last, but we go to Venice at least once a year. But as consolation, Mary Lutyens and J G Links, the author of Venice for Pleasure, went more than 50 times.

We do make it to other places too, Genoa is next.

Always Ireland and some of the same places there, particularly to see a special friend, but there is so much of the island that I want to see that I fear I'll not live long enough...or the money will run out...and I'll get too old to rent a car...but for now, back to Eire.

I am guilty as charged! I have been traveling to Europe since 1983, three times each year(four times 2011). I usually try to add one new destination. I am going to Italy and France again in April. I have tried to figure the number of times I have been to Nice. Maybe 60-70 times. And I still LOVE it!

I feel this way about going to Europe. We go to different parts of Europe, but I'm just not very interested in other parts of the world. Not even other parts of the US and I'm an American.

I do like to stay in a different neighborhood whenever I go to a familiar city, just to enlarge my acquaintance with the place. Next trip to London, I want to stay in the Kensington High Street/Holland Park area. Never been there.
