Go to www.tripadvisor.com and read the messages on Paris. That is a very active discussion board....some of them even plan to meet each other when in Paris.

I just got back from Paris (yesterday), and there seemed to be an ample number of tourists, but it wasn't crushingly overwhelming in most cases, with exceptions in the REALLY big tourist attractions (kind of nice for me, though I'm sure the businesses that depend on tourists are less happy). Of course, it was my first time in Paris, so I'm not sure if that's how it normally feels (it seems like it's big enough to swallow up a lot of people) or is abnormal.

I was impressed that the dogs understood French too. ((&)
Did those people say how they came by the knowledge that tourism was down in Paris?
I have friends going in a couple of weeks and they had a helluva time getting hotel rooms, and many people here are going..although I don't count how many post. Perhaps if you see less posts ( I don't really) it could be that a lot of people are not going for the First time and have less questions to ask?
I think tourists might have stayed away from the demonstrations but not from Paris, there were Fodorites there and they posted about it.
So in answer to your question...
Yes, People do still come to Paris.

hey, bob - I didn't see you beat me to it!
If it's true that there are fewer (being a relative term!) posts about Paris, that's probably a reflection of the broadened horizons of so many travelers who have gained confidence to go to more 'exotic' places than they would have tried in the past.
Looking at titles right now, I see people asking about Polish cities, Hvar apartments, Tescos and Naxos (what's that, Greece?), Lagos, flying Air Croatia, questions about Slovenia... and so on.
So people might be ~going~to Paris but have less need to post about it, and instead are asking questions about places they don't know so well.

I have heard it from antiquaires, who seem to think people are staying down because of the demonstrations. I am beginning to think it has more to do with spending less because of the weak dollar.
Thanks for all the feedback. And to those who are coming, have a wonderful time.

Hi Sue_xx_yy
>Please tell us how you got the number of posts. I know there's a way to do it without counting them oneself....<
Enter <Paris> in the "Search this Forum" box.
You get a numbered list giving the date and time of the last reply for each.

Sure seems like plenty of Paris posts here everyday to me!
Another thought is that destinations do come in and out of "fashion". Italy seems the most popular country presently judging from this board. Same things on the Latin America board, a few years ago was all about Mexico, now Costa Rica seems the destination of choice.

I have been in Paris twice over the last year and will be there again in two months. That will probably be the last time for a while as everyday life with two children is getting to be too expensive and the kids will be going in different directions during their vacation time.
That being said, I would do anything to live in France (well, almost anything). That is my dream, but it is hard to do at this stage in my life.

I seem to see posts mostly on Paris, including mine in February.
toupary, the euro is not good for us and we who don't have deep pockets can't afford to visit more than once a year or less. I'd gladly go monthly if you'll fund me

There were lots of tourists when we were there just 2 weeks ago, but, what was kind of nice, many were french, it being a holiday weekend. Some were just as lost as we were, and just as wide eyed.

Well, I never see any shortage of posts of Paris. Just came back from trip # 71 in March and will continue to go 3-4 times a year until such time as I am permanently ensconced not in Paris but in the Dordogne, and then will make frequent trips to Paris, too.
I don't see the same trend you're seeing, Toupary.
