Does $1,000 a week buy nice lodging in Tuscany?

JUst looking at some options in Tuscany it seems like about $150 a week buys one some very classy lodging in the Tuscany region. Am I missing something, not that I'm looking to pay a higher rate or anything!

I've been on tuscany.net and would like to go in August. Any suggestions?

Thanks very much for your help.

I am confused by your numbers--is that some new MSU math? Whatever, go to slowtrav.com for good rental reviews.

I'm guessing you meant $150 a night or about $1000 a week. Right?

I can tell you that I was mightily impressed with the apartment we rented in Montpulciano for a week this summer. It cost us 83 euro a night -- that was just over $100 a night rented by the week. And although there were just two of us, it was actually a two bedroom apartment that could have easily and comfortably accomodated four.

Patrick, thanks for confirming the general cost I can expect. Lodging seems very reasonable in Tuscany. Sorry,to confuse anyone, I meant $150 a night. As you can see I wasn't a Math major!

MSU guy-FYI (that rhymes!) August is holiday month for many Europeans. If you choose to go then, you may find some restaurants and shops to be closed then.

Patrick: have to tag on to this thread. I looked up the Pogglio apt you recommend in Montepulciano on the Web but could not find a way to contact them. The whole website would not show up on my screen. Could you possibly give me an e-mail address to this property?

Did you copy and paste the link I gave? It should work. What you get is a mainly blank screen with one pic and flags for languages. If you click the British flag, the whole site should open up. There is a link there for emailing them. The email address is [email protected]
But you need to look at the site to see the various apartments, etc.

Patrick: Those are killer apartments. I looked at every photo and read every line. And if we went before May the cost is only 480 euros a week -- under 70 euros a day!

Did you have a car -- they seem to feel public transport options are viable but I assume that is less than ideal....

tedgale, we had reserved a car for that portion of our trip, but after a major accident in Wales a couple weeks before, we cancelled the car. When we arrived, we called the sisters and one sent her husband to the bus station to pick us up. We spent the entire week, sometimes just hiking, sometimes taking busses or trains to other towns. We saw Tuscany in ways we've never seen it in our other trips there -- thanks to NOT having a car. Although admittedly having a car might be easier, especially for a first trip to Tuscany. They have parking in the garden right there. But the bus station is only about a 10 minute walk and with a little planning it was easy to get to Chiusi for trains, or busses to Pienza and Siena in particular. We loved staying in Montepulciano at night -- plenty of nice restaurants and no drive home -- something we always like.

I would return to this place in a heartbeat. It was wonderful.

I went to rentvillas.com and got a villa for the week for about $100 night in April - can't speak for August. Great service from the website also. It's something to look into at least.

Hello! We are also staying in Montepulciano for our honeymoon in June, at The Politian apartments. We're paying approximately $550 USD for the week- www.politian.com

These apartments have been reviewed on Fodors and SlowTrav, and the owner could not have been more friendly so far!

Good luck!
