Actually, that 'Team Africa' comment probably stems from the Swiss - they ran a particularly distasteful cartoon about it. Don't try blaming this on the English!

It seems the New Scientist has done some resaearch into what's the most exciting sport, here's the link

but for those who can't be bothered to view here's the summary

Fact: BASEBALL has home runs, American football has touchdowns and basketball has slam dunks. But when it comes to which is the most exciting sport to follow, soccer takes the gold medal.

Subject Closed!

Well, if the New Scientist says it, that's good enough for me.

Again, now, what is the New Scientist?

It's a magazine for people with pointy heads and poor social skills.

New Scientist is readers digest for the scientific community. Bought religiously every week by the younger workers in my lab in the hope that they will find something more lucrative in the jobs pages. (Fat chance - it is full of adverts wanting PhDs , 5 years experience and a good record of publications to work on a two year short term contract for £15K a year).

Seriously though, it is a weekly magazine akin to the highly respected Scientific American.
