Do you still get any spam e-mails since Fodors registaration?

I got my first spam today. I did not get many before maybe once a week but this is only one since January (?) when registration took place.

I've never had a problem with either spam or pop-ups since registration.

I haven't been getting popups from fodors.com. When I do get popups, they seem to be coming from whatever website I am on at the time. On most websites I get no popups. Other websites have almost constant popups. I get none here at fodors.com

my spam has increased 100 fold since beginning on fodors in november 2002....but the pop-ups are trully annoying....i think they are fodors related too but the site is too valuable to me to give up...sometimes i get one pop-up right after another....fodors is the only thing i have done differently since all of this began....????? what i really object to is the spams that i try to send a msg to to unsubscribe and they either don't have a place to send it or the address given is not working.....very annoying!!!!

I found out that the Pop-ups we were plagued with are called SAVE and they enable you to delete them, it is annoying, you have to go into the computer files etc. but it worked. I am plagued no more~

No spam from Fodors, but am getting alot of annoying Viagra info, which does give a whole new connotation to Pop-ups.

... no span for me either, but I setup a seperate e-mail account for BBS type postings and then respond to 'legitimate' queries with my 'normal' e-mail address ...

If you got only one spam since January you are either not telling the truth or you just got an email account. I get about 50 per day.

I get lots of spam at my office...nothing on my home email! I think it might be Verizon has a special filter, but I'm pleased!

TO: rhkkmk...a techy friend of mine passed along a piece of valuable advice re: Spam. Apparently, responding at all (even to request a deletion of your address)simply underlines that they have a "live" email address and will very much increase your Spam as it gets passed around.

I am on Hotmail which is supposed to be the equivalent of honey to spambears, but have very little spam, maybe 4-10 per day. By refusing all bulk email, NEVER responding and immediately deleting anything that does get through I definitely have reduced the junk. And no increase via Fodor's that I could detect.

Unfortunately, there is truth in what LJ says, but in reality it's even worse than that. If you're viewing mail on a browser like you would w/ Yahoo! or Hotmail, the very act of viewing the mail can alert the spammer that they have a live e-mail address. How?

Because, what they do is embed something like: <IMG SRC="http://spam-r-us.com/[email protected]">

Your browser goes out to retrieve the image, which promptly returns some image I don't know maybe some innocuous logo, in reality, possibly even a 1x1 pixel gif that doesn't even display. But, it has told spam-r-us that [email protected] is a live e-mail address. Just another thing to keep in mind. Unfortunately, sometimes this means deleting things on the basis of the subject alone. (which arguably might be error-prone)... *sigh*

Oh yeah. It's rarely if ever as easy as "[email protected]". You're much more likely to see /whatever.cgi?id=74636363... The effect is the same tho. 74636363 is mapped to your e-mail address. The same spam sent to someone else gets a different ID.

Just to clarify is all.

I get a lot of spam in my main account because I have been using the same e-mail address for many years and it is posted publicly in many places. I registered for this board using a Yahoo account that I seldom use. Not one piece of spam since registration.

Folks -- hotmail gives you the option of blocking images from addresses not in your contact list -- if the image is blocked -- then they don't get the information that you have opened the email

I get tons everyday--did before, still do. But, my address is the same for 6 years and is everywhere. Would someone pass on the word that I do not need a mortgage, do not have bad credit, have all of the ink I need, and am very happy with my body parts. I am still deciding about the teen sluts.
