Do you love your job???
 

I ask because I just got back from a 17 day trip to Italy--17 days of pure bliss and happiness! I was hoping that I could keep that feeling when I returned to my real life--but it is fading fast. So I starting thinking that people that absolutely LOVE thier jobs might not suffer from this the same way I am. Is this silly?

No, I do not love my job and after coming back from a trip I feel very much like you described. What usually helps is planning the next trip :)

If you loved your job then you wouldnt enjoy your holiday so much.
We need contrasts in our lives. Its the bad stuff that makes the good stuff good - if you know what I mean!

Doesn't help. I like my job plenty, but still feel a let-down when I come home from a wonderful trip.

I heartily encourage everyone to find work that they would be doing anyway, even if they weren't paid to do it.

My own experience is that if you truly love what you do, you will almost inevitably succeed, because you will put so much time and effort and devotion into it that you practically can't fail.

And even if you do, you will have spent the time enjoyably.

<i>p.s.</i> If you don't like your job, your enjoyment of a vacation will be tainted by the knowledge that the feeling won't last forever. So it cuts both ways.

I always experience post-vacation depression and it doesn't go away until I'm planning the next one.

Like you, I also wish I could bring home the great attitude I have when travelling -- enthusiastic, open-minded, un-entitled, appreciative and gracious, unwilling to let small things &quot;ruin&quot; my day.

No, don't love the job but love the little bit of money it provides so I can travel! Now I plan two trips at a time to help me forget the &quot;job&quot;...the only problem with that is I really need two jobs to pay for the travel!! I think I need professional help.

hell no! and I feel totally depressed when I come to reality...but it's a necessary evil so that I can go on the next trip!

Whether we love our jobs or not, most Americans don't have enough vacation time. I think that's the real problem. If we're lucky we parse out two weeks in the course of a year, instead of the six weeks (with two to three trips to Europe!) that we really need!

To Wic-I love my job but still love my vacations! Each vacation everyone here misses me even more than the last time. Even though we get someone in here, no one can do what I do. Why? Because I love my job and I am good at it (most people that love their jobs probably are good at it). When I come back I am able to recount our lovely vacations to co-workers and customers, etc. the other fun part of a vacation. We begin planning our next vacation at the end of the last. This job helps us pay for these wonderful journeys. My husband feels much the same about his job. Real life is different from vacations-that is why vacations are special. Shirley

By definition, work (or a job) is something that you have to do.

No matter how enjoyable it might be, work (or a job) can't compare to being retired.
