Do you know Menton?

Tried to do a search but not having much luck. Friends and I are thinking of renting a villa and our agent suggested Menton. She said you can go to Italy for lunch. Any info much appreciated.
Pierrette

Pierrette: Menton is a town, not that large, but still.

I'd choose Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat or the Cap d'Antibes area. Lots of lovely villas to rent there.

No problem to make a quick step into Italy, if absolutely necessary.

Tons of useful information and photos here on Menton's web page:

http://www.menton.com/

Menton´s old town behimnd the harbour is very beautiful.

It is a good base for parts of both the French Cote d´Azur and the Italian Riviera.

It is only ten minutes by local train to Monaco and another 20 to Nice.

It is only 3 miles from Italy. Villa Hanbury Gardens is just across the border. Take the local train to the 3 old resorts Ventimiglia, Bordighera and San Remo.

Thank you very much.
Cathy we have the option to stay at 8 different locations during the month and Cap d'Antibes is one of them so we will check it out. We will probably stay in 2 or 3.
Great site Frenchie.
Pierrette

I stayed on a friend's boat there eons ago, and it's a wonderful, warm little town. Mostly (at least back then) full of retirees, a lot from England. If I remember, they have a lemon festival once a year. The climate is outstanding, and you can WALK to the Italian border. If you have a car, it's within close proximity to everything. If not, just hop on the train.

The most crowd is after 60-70 years old. If you are OK with this go for Menton, otherwise you will fell like wrong party as I felt all the time there.

Pierrette, we returned last week from our trip to the French and Italian Rivieras.

We spent our first night in Menton before heading to SML for the first week of our vacation. We loved what we saw so when we returned to that area for the second week, we spent a lot of time in Menton. It is a lovely town with great places to eat and shop - and don't forget the casino, if that's your thing.

We saw a wide range of age groups in Menton - certainly did not notice that there were a lot of older people. We saw both young and old and everything in between, families, couples, singles, etc.

I think you will enjoy Menton.

Here's another endorsement for Menton. It is relatively small and easy to get around. We were there this past winter and were able to enjoy the Citrus Festival.

Have a great time.
