Do you know if the Como station has 'left luggage'?

If you're talking about Como San Giovani (sp? anyway, it's the Como station that handles the trains from Milan to Switzerland), the answer is yes. The left luggage is run by whoever is working the little bar *inside* the train station. The cost is about 3 or 3.5 euro per piece. Just go up to the bartender, tell him/her you'd like to leave your luggage and he/she will take it from there.

I didn't realize that Como had more than one train station, but I looked up the train service from Venice to Como, and San Giovanni is the Como station that the trains from Venice use.

Is the S.G. Como train station in the center of town? Walkable to shops and sights?

It's up on a hill; you can walk to a center square near the ferry docks in about 15-20 minutes or so (depending on your pace), take a bus or a taxi. I don't know the town of Como itself all that well, so I basically wandered down to the square by the ferries then took a taxi back. (The Duomo was closed for some reason the day I was there). Along the way, I passed a store selling some beautiful quilted silk jackets made in Como by Frey.

The station is convenient to the central city sites/sights.
The duomo is closed for at least two hours at lunchtime. When we were there, not even a priest could gain admittance during that period!

BTilke, thanks for the mention of the shop, I'll look for it. Also, good info about the left luggage. You know, I emailed to trenitalia, and they said they couldn't answer my question about facilities at that station, they don't have that info. So, you know more than trenitalia.
