Do you have any recommended food in London?

I’m going to London and want to experience the variety of food. Do you have any recommendations? Thanks.

Are you on a budget or are you happy to spend a lot on a meal? What sort of food do you like? Eg. Vegetarian, seafood, steaks, Indian, Italian, British?

bilboburgler Feb 3rd, 2024 11:50 PM

Oh boy, a 10 million city which is famously multi-cultural and you want advice about a very vibrant thing.

what sort of food?

PatrickLondon Feb 4th, 2024 12:05 AM

You could eat your way around the world in Soho/Chinatown alone.

crellston Feb 4th, 2024 01:00 AM

For variety head to Browns Hotel in Albermarle Street which does the best Omelette Arnold Bennett then MacDonalds in Oxford Street for a quarter pounder (with cheese of course)

Full English breakfast to start, then pub food (fish & chips) in evening - cheap and cheerful.

natylou Feb 4th, 2024 06:38 AM

Palomar and Barbary are must dos for us. Best Israeli/Barbary coast food with an upbeat vibe.

macdogmom Feb 4th, 2024 06:51 AM

I also love Barbary, Barrafina (Spanish tapas), Koya (udon noodles) and Dishoom for Indian. It’s a very multicultural and diverse city and one of my favorite places to eat. Hungryonion.org and Eater.com will have some good London eating recommendations.

Welcome to Fodors. With all due respect to some of the other Fodorites- it's sorta kinda difficult to give any sort of useful suggestions unless/ until you tell us something/anything about what sorts of food you want ( because just about every cuisine in the world is found in London ) and your budget ( because you can spend anything from very little to hundreds of £ on a meal)

fufu7755 Feb 4th, 2024 05:08 PM

Thank you. I have seen a lot of delicious food in Soho/Chinatown and plan to try it.

fufu7755 Feb 4th, 2024 05:09 PM

Thanks!

fufu7755 Feb 4th, 2024 05:10 PM

Very tempting, thank you.

You are more likely to find a Sardinian restaurant in London than Rome or anywhere outside Sardinia. I would check out that cuisine.

nyse Feb 5th, 2024 05:03 PM

If your visit covers a Sunday, you might want to partake of a traditional Sunday lunch:

“Lazy day, Sunday afternoon
Like to get your feet up, watch TV
Sunday roast is something good to eat
Must be lamb today 'cause beef was last week
So full up, bursting at the seams
Soon you'll start to nod off, happy dreams
Wake up, for tea and buttered scones (It's such a crying shame)
Such a lot of work for you, Sunday moms (Week after week the same)”

(Moody Blues)

We enjoyed dining at Elysian Street. Excellent dinners and wines.

When I had a trip there, I ate in a restaurant named Kerridge Bar. I think it was on Northumberland Ave, I don’t really remember, But God that food was so good and tasty!

Kerridge Bar and Grill is indeed in Northumberland Avenue inside the Corinthian, one of London's hotels. Quite pricey! (think £35 for burger or fish and chips) Haven't eaten there but have eaten in his place in Marlow and the food is excellent.

plufmud Feb 9th, 2024 04:55 AM

We ate at Brigadiers for Indian cuisine, Sabor for Spanish~eat at the counter, and Ciccheti for italian cuisine in June. 2023. Highly recommend all 3.

Thank you for your replies. London is a diverse city with friends from all over the world. People living in London are very happy.

I like this thread. Thank you.

Flavorful lunch, various Ottolenghi locations. I guess you call it Israeli/ Middle Eastern, with bakery.

Yes, Ottolenghi restaurants plus Palomar and the Barbary are all delicious middle eastern/Israeli/northern Africa influenced.

Also for a fancy Indian meal, Gymkhana is supposed to be wonderful. You can reserve online. Dishoom is great but long lines.

NYCMOM50 Feb 11th, 2024 12:09 AM

Yes. Chicken tikka sandwich from TescO express stores located throughout the city. Great mango chutney included. Better than Dishoom to me.

In the words of John McEnroe, "You cannot be serious!"

If you like Ottolenghi then check out The Coal Office in Coal Drops Yard next to Kings Cross Station. Middle Eastern, predominantly Israeli food similar to Ottolenghi. Coal Drops is a great place if you cant make up your mind as there is a huge variety of cuisines to suit everyone . https://www.kingscross.co.uk/eat-and-drink

Getting a to go sandwich and sitting down at a restaurant seem like very different experiences and very separate recommendations.
