Do you ever think you're just going to burst?
 

My trip to the U.K. is not until September and I can't wait! Do you ever get that feeling that you literraly CANNOT wait another day and you have NO idea how you're supposed to make it through 8 more weeks!!??

I do know what you mean. As a UK resident I feel exactly the same when I am due to leave the UK.

I look forward to going to France where community spirit still exists, there is respect for the family and quality of life is valued over material possesions.

In the UK we exclude families from most places of eating and entertainment. We have very few cultural events and festivals and we charge a fortune for the most basic food and accommodation.

I'm glad that you can't wait to get here, quite franlkly I can't wait to get out.

I know where you're coming from! It is STILL eight weeks until we go to Italy. What's really bad is that despite all the great places in the world my husband and I have been to, Italy wasn't one of them. It is, however, the one one place that the rest of our family--brother, parents, sister, even our 14 year old daughter, for goodness sakes--have been to. Therefore, everyone has been feeding us these tantalizing tidbits that have us in travel agony!

So here is the best way to deal with the waiting. I think to myself that I have eight weeks to lose ten pounds. Now I'm a reasonable size 8, so I don't need to, but I know those Italian women are petit. My competitive feminine nature naturally rises. I don't want anyone looking at me and thinking lumpy old American.

When I put it in that framework, eight weeks away turns into "Omygawd I have ONLY eight weeks left to whip myself into shape!!! How am I ever going to do it with NOOO time like that?"

Sort of puts a different spin on it.

Trust me, dln, just back from Italy and those women aren't all THAT "petite." I am sure you'll look quite hot regardless..but it was a fun response and probably helpful. Enjoy your trip (and go ahead..EAT the gelato, too!!!!)

Intrepid, PCircles assures me that she came back from Italy five pounds lighter and she ate tons of pasta and drank bottles of limocello! I am much encouraged.

My trip to Amsterdam and Italy is 10 weeks away. I dont know how I will survive it.

This is my 3rd trip to Italy but I am more excited than the first time !! I think it is because I dream of all the beautiful art, food, wine, and some of the freindliest people on earth. I know what it has to offer and I cant wait to partake. It is a spiritual thing for me.

Each night at 10pm I turn off the TV and go through the senarios of the first things I will do in each city I am visiting after I check into the hotel and get settled. In Amsterdam I will go to the Jordaan and just walk the little quaint canals. In Venice I will go to Campo Santa Margaherta and get a glass of wine and just enjoy the scene. In Rome my hotel is right by the Trevi. I will go there to sit awhile. This time I will be able to go there to see the trevi at night. I am really looking forward to the peaceful evenings around the squares and fountains of Italy.

IS IT TIME TO GO YET?

Where are you off to this year?

I definitely would not be able to function with a trip three months in advance - the waiting, planning, obsessing would kill me. So I plan trips three or four weeks in advance - all that obsessing and planning is healthier when compacted down like that, the only thing that kills me is when I see my credit card bill, as it usually costs more to wait till the last second : )

YOU'LL KNOW IT WHEN I AM!

I know EXACTLY what you mean!!! We have 8 weeks until our trip to Paris, Switzerland and Lake Como, and I'm bursting at the seams. It's in my thoughts every minute of the day, and I go to sleep thinking about all the beautiful sights my eyes will soon see. My only consolation is that before I know it, our trip will be over, so this period of anticipation becomes even more precious!

Until then, all of us haunt this board!

I am so glad to have this forum of ga-ga (do they still use that word?) people, because in "real life" there are only one or two people with whom I can share my exuberance over European travel. Most of my friends are polite, but I can see that 'get a life' look on their faces. So this is where I let it spill over. Thanks all. J.

How would this kill you?

We got married in October 2001. We couldn't afford the planned honeymoon then (2 weeks in London, 4*, etc). so we postponed it to the following August. I, of course, being an addict, plan and research and search for deals, and places to stay for the 'perfect' honeymoon'. Four poster bed, Victorian place, etc...

OK, April 2002 comes along, and we're hit with a big problem -- the house we're renting is being sold, must move. We have enough to finally buy a house for the first time, so we do this instead of the honeymoon, and delay it for another year, to September 2003. More research and plans...

Come March 2003, husband gets laid off, cuz his boss is declaring bankruptcy. Delightful. NOW its postponed until December 2003... MORE research and plans.

Hopefully it won't be postponed again!!!!!!

Yeah - my wife keeps booking trips to Europe (Ireland, France, Spain), and I'd rather stay home and go to the beach!
