I don't care anymore if the airline finds it troublesome that I'm calling to reconfirm a flight. After my experience a couple of years ago where I took a taxi to CDG and wandered around like a zombie looking for the United check-in stand and never found it (they actually disassemble some of the check-in stands so that if there are no more flights, there is no more United Airlines at the airport), and then found out that United had closed for the day and my flight had been canceled ("because it was flight 911 and too many people wouldn't fly a flight with that number"), I had to go back into Paris, plead with my hotel to give me another room (no problem) and spend another night there (not exactly a problem for me as I adore Paris), but it was a gentle reminder to me to call a day or two ahead and reconfirm the flight home. The flight over, I'm so eager I'm at the airport and willing to get on any flight they've got going anywhere near where I want to land :) The flight home _ I reconfirm now - it only takes a few minutes and I don't care if it inconveniences the airlines.

I always confirm my flights. It is 100 miles to the nearest major airport, and I do not want to be dropped off and no flight or have to sit for hours waiting for one. I confirm my hotel if I booked weeks or months in advance. I have never had any trouble but once in Cancun when the Palace Resorts moved our reservations to another one of there hotels, which was a 4 star, instead of a 5 star, but it ended up being in a much better lacation, so I was happy.

I always reconfirm my flights and my hotels. I usually get my tix in August for our annual trip to Vegas in early Dec. 2 years ago, the one time I didn't confirm my flight was the one time my flight was cancelled. US Air rebooked my flight for an earlier time without telling me, so needless to say, by the time I got to the airport, my flight was long gone. Good thing I live 5 minutes away from LGA, the airline didn't want to pay for hotel or a taxi home, saying I should have called to confirm my flight. I finally bugged them to the point where, to get me away from the counter, they booked me on Delta, but I had to go across town to the other airport, JFK. By the time I got there, Delta said I wasn't on their list. I finally had to go home, call the US Air to get me a flight on their next flight out (another cancelled flight the next morning!!!). Finally they got me a flight on American, and I finally made it to Vegas. It only took me 23 hours. Had I spent 10 minutes on hold to reconfirm...chalk it up to life's lessons.

Absolutely! I have had several occasions (flying domestically) where I did not get the call from the airlines that not only did they change the time of departure, they put me on a different airline. Always confirm!!

Does online check-in count? I do that. :)

I didn't confirm my most recent return flight, and in a way it worked out for the best. United Airlines e-mailed me on the morning of my return flight from CDG (approx. 4 hours before my flight was scheduled to leave) that due to over-booking, they were putting me on a flight the next day. Since I didn't have e-mail service that morning, I didn't get the message. So I checked in at the airport as scheduled, in complete ignorance, and somehow they put me on the original flight. I didn't even know about the flight change until I got home and read the e-mail.

I wonder now, if I had called to confirm, would they have removed me from the flight like they said in the e-mail? If so, would have been scrambling to find a hotel for an extra night. At any rate, I was not happy with UAL's four-hour notice that they planned to bump me to the next day.
