Jolie beat me to it. I could swear Mary lived in Minneapolis (throw that hat up in the air)!

a carry on should be limited to a smaller item not a suitcase large suitcases take up other peoples room, crush objects and wrinkle clothes. this is mostly people who do not want to wait to retrieve their baggage so will inconvience everyone else.this violation is one of the most common and anoying seen in air travel today

ARGH! Can't I get my edit in without you fans catching my goof in all of five (okay, twenty-four) minutes!!! Yes, yes, it was Minneapolis! But, but....NYC and Minneapolis...uh...both have tall buildings....uh...both get cold enough in the winter to wear hats....okay...I know I'm stretching here.....

Nice to know others remember the show.

For what it's worth, Sue, I was just thinking of The MTM Show the other day. And I thought she lived in Chicago (another big city w/cold winters.)

Where did Marlo Thomas live in "That Girl"? And wasn't she supposed to be a flight attendant?

Lesli May 11th, 2006 04:17 PM

Okay, I just did a Yahoo search. Marlo lived in NYC. And was supposedly a model/actress.

I have posted my "sad" story before. We always try to take only carry-on. The reason for this is that we have had NUMEROUS lost bags. Yes, they were all eventually returned. Once in Italy we received our luggage the day before our return flight home (both of our bags were "lost" the whole trip). Another trip my husband received his lost bag AFTER our return home. Also, it is great to have only carry on if you have to change flights/airlines for some reason (like YOUR flight is cancelled and the next one is ???) Do I wish I could check my bag?---YES, but it is not worth it. I am paranoid about the airlines losing MY bag.
Happy travels!

I always enjoy your posts but you have outdone yourself on this thread!. You have perfectly captured the “I take less luggage therefore I am the superior traveler” attitude that sometimes appears on this board. LOL.

This is the funniest thread.. RufusTFirefly -- you have me rolling on the floor.. But seriously folks.. I would love to travel that way. Just once ! Maybe some day y'all will get a wiff of me on one of your flights!! HAHA.. NO... J/K... I am a carryon only person, though.. and just what will fit on the floor beneath my feet. That way I don't take up anyone else's space, and there is no chance of them grabbing my carryon to be checked. Paranoid - yes. I know how easily bags get 'lost'. Good journey all.

Sue, thanks for the reply, and I remember the show well. MTM was a poster girl for "nice" in the 70's, while everyone else was busy with behaviors that still aren't acceptable today!

The next time we go on a 2-week trip I am going to give your way a try, mainly because I am tired of wrestling with other, meaner and more strong-armed passengers for the overhead bins. A couple of days' clothing (or at least lingerie) and a shopping trip don't seem like a bad trade off. :)

In my experience you CAN pack TOO light, one 3-week trip, 3 cities in Europe I took only one very small duffel bag with a minimum of clothes. By the end I was ready to burn 'em all. And I don't care what you say, buying clothes on vacation is not as easy as people make it sound, nor something I want to spend time doing. Since that trip, I pack a tiny bit more generously and am a much happier camper.
