Do you also get depressed?
 

Our last European holiday was in May 2006, feels like ages. About two days ago my wife
said to me that it's been such a long time that she's feeling depressed and after a few moments of thinking I realised, so was I. We had a wonderful time and what I have got now are withdrawal symptoms!! We have chosen to go to Mauritius this year for a holiday, going to Europe I class as travelling. Next year is a big one for us we are going to get our fix in Italy, France and Austria. Can we last?

Take out the photos and take a walk down memory lane....I find it helps to bring back that wonderful feeling. Start planning your trip for next year to Italy...and you'll have something to look forward to.

Our last trip was in June 2006, this year we will be skipping as we have some heavy expenses coming up :(

There will be no traveling until May 2008....sob!

Plan all the little details for your next 'real' trip and two 'backup' trips to other destinations (there is always the lottery and one needs to have a plan ready :D ).

My last trip to continental Europe was in February. The next one starts on Thursday, and I have one lined up for July. It's possible that I will fit something in between those two.

There are advantages to living in Ireland, and easy access to the continent is one of them.

The word is "holiday". I'm not telling how much I paid for a 4 day short trip to Paris this summer. :D. (Special rate + pay 3 get 4) :D But it's still 3 months here in the office, the weekends at least...

We had gotten a bit used to going to Europe nearly annually for awhile there. I even went to Italy twice in four months between the end of 2005 and beginning of 2006.

However, DH and I have said that we really need to travel only to the US this year (and very likely next) instead of Europe in order to spend more time with our parents who have some health issues.

So, Europe will be out for us for awhile and it is a bit depressing, but I keep telling myself that our parents won't always be with us and it's important to make the trips to see them at this time. Europe will still be there down the road.

We live at the Southern tip of Africa so there is no hopping across the channel to visit Europe for us. Ours is always a major mission. We have probably over thyears spent more money on European holidays than we should have but without regrets.

I spend half the year in Italy and half in Florida. There comes a time in each place I get a bit depressed that I'm not in the other. Some of us are just blessed, or cursed with wanderlust. So, I'll get back to working on my matter transfer machine.

Although my work takes me to Europe several times a year, it's not the same!

My husband and I spent a glorious week in Italy in September and YES! I can't wait for the next trip!

Never any regret for the money we spend on our trips! We hope to get to Barcelona in August.

My last feel of European soil was June of '06 and I am definately feeling like I need to be there again. The thing I missed the most during the winter months was planning for the trip. I have as much fun searching for hotels, air fare, things to do once I get there, etc. as I do on the trip itself. Someone somewhere once refered to travel planning as foreplay and the trip itself to.... Since I'm not traveling this year, I guess I'm feeling just a little bit_____ (fill in the blank!).

So I cheated on Europe a little, and flirted with Florida for a week. It was nice to get away from the daily grind, but Fort Myers Beach is nothing more than a cheap substitute compared to the sparkling blue waters of the Aegean

My next trip will be in the summer of '09 when I take my daughter for her graduation trip. Destination still unknown, but most likely Spain and France. Of course I'd still throw in quick trip before then if I could find a travel partner :)

May I suggest a very good bottle of wine and some rental travel tapes (Rick
Steves,Globe Trekker, National Geographic,etc. from the library) to do some night when you are feeling this way? It is a nice band aid for the pain of not being over there.

When I'm missing Italy I pull out my DVD of the movie "Only You." It is a lovely romantic comedy set in Venice/Rome/Positano. Cheesy but one of my favorite movies!

Dutyfree, I hope you made it to Greece. I have this image of you waiting to get on a flight, don't leave us hanging.

I'm sort of down, because we just had a terrific week in Barcelona, and I had wanted to do Amsterdam in July....but I look at the plane fares, and for the cost of the fares alone to the Netherlands in July, I could pay for an entire US vacation. We were planning a Germany vacation for next year (DD will be taking German in school), so now we'll just combine the Netherlands with Germany (taking a bit more time). It will give me the time to find the perfect places to stay in each country, I guess.

I do, but only because I know that my lifestyle won't be forever. At the moment, I'm 22 years old, live with my parents (don't judge me, I'm italian-catholic!), and since 2004 have travelled to Europe at least three times a year, in addition to numerous short trips around the country. I even worked as a flight attendant for awhile.

I do realize that eventually I'm going to have to "grow up" and stop travelling as much--maybe once a year to Europe. That's still more than most people, but still..it makes me sad!

Having said that, I have a few flight attendant interviews coming up this month. I miss it.

I retire at the end of 2007 and have built up a travel fund over the years to help me with my addiction. (others buy cigarettes!) We will then be free to travel more than once a year! wow. The only thing that has ever bugged me about travelling was always towards the end of the holiday my stupid mind wandered back to the office to think about what was waiting for me. From next year there will be no office to go back to dum di dum.

Miss Zeigfield-as I enter my "twilight years" of being a flight attendant I truly understand what you are saying about "missing it" but please don't mention that you "eventually have to grow up". I had planned on being a flight attendant for a few years after college and then had planned on going back to my high school teaching job after I had traveled a bit. Well,although I basically have little retirement compared to my friends who are teaching-the memories of places,friends,history and culture are forever in my mind.I encourage everyone to renew your traveling addiction whenever possible and to never grow up!

Ah, dutyfree, you are correct. And I did not mean to apply that being a FA isn't a "grown up" job--just that, if I DON'T go back to flying, I will then have to really get a job at an office and be bored and miserable forever. I'm the type who NEEDS constant change and variety, and I love working with the public. fingers and toes crossed!!

Our last European trip was to France in 2004! We are going back to France this September and will include Switzerland as well:)

Of course, the killer for me is that two of my kids will be going on a school choir trip next March - Italy or Ireland. They will be abroad again before I will!

Shame on y'all!

My last European trip was in 1995! Since then I have become familiar with a beautiful place called Oahu :-) So I am far from depressed. However, try to count your blessings. You truly are fortunate. Some people only see Europe in pictures and on TV.
Just my 2 cents.

My last trip to Europe was September 2006, but my next trip is May 24 then again Sept.12. I'm counting the days.

We are living in Germany and every year we are hopping from Italy to Ireland to France to Spain.... (actually we will be in Andalucia next week). We´ve got many weeks off work here in Europe! But what really makes me feel depressed is when there is only one year that we cannot go to the US (Colorado, Utah, Arizona.........sigh!!) or to Canada (beloved Nova Scotia...)

i have been home from paris for 14 days and became depressed the minute we landed on u.s. soil...thank goodness i work for a psychiatrist!

I travel to Europe for vacation twice a year and I still get depressed between visits!

This year we decided to go to Japan in October instead of Europe. While I'm excited to finally visit Asia, I'm also feeling the Europe withdrawals and I've only been back from Ireland a little over a month!

Miss Zeigfield the answer is simple find a job that lets you travel! I know it's just that you are young but some of us have our own offices AND travel the world! Jobs just are not all one way or another. Because of my job I have met people all over the world and am lucky enough to have my customers invite me to stay with them and their families. I have even taken my husband and daughter to their countries and we've all become friends. I know from this board I am not alone and I am not a flight attendant.

While we are on the subject, I would like to take the time to thank all you wonderful FAs out there. You all have one of the hardest (demanding too) jobs I can think of. While I'm sure it has it's benefits, it has to be very stressful too.
