Do Turkish ATMs charge a fee?

I asked this inside another thread but am not sure of the answer. So I'm putting it out for wider visibility.

Do ATMs in Turkey (ones in/connected to a bank) charge a fee for cash withdrawals? I'm not referring to your home bank charges, but a local charge. Which should be in Turkish lira.

I do not recall a fee charged by any Turkish bank.

That is the same memory I have but it was a couple of years ago. Even if they charge it is still cheaper than any other alternative so am not sure what the concern is.

I don't know about them charging a fee but I do recall being slow in completing my transaction due to difficulty in reading the screen because of the sun. The ATM got impatient, cancelled the transaction and KEPT my card. The ATM stood alone, not attached to a bank, so it involved searching around Istanbul for the right bank and then waiting two days for them to retrieve the card. Lesson: use an ATM at an open bank.

All the ATMs we used offered the choice of euro or lira. And, no,
I don't recall a charge from the Turkish banks. IMHO, if the 3.00
or so charge is levied and it's a problem, the solution would be to
withdraw a larger amount of money so you have fewer ATM jaunts.

I used a variety of bank related ATM's in Turkey in July. None charged a fee.

As an addendum to my earlier question, can one get euros from a Turkish ATM? I ask because hotel prices, at least, are quoted in euros.

immimi Feb 23rd, 2012 05:55 AM

Yes.

Ditto,no charges.
Can't say I remember being offered choice of euros/liras
