Do trains run past midnight???

I need to get from Bologna to Florence, so I'd like to take the train around midnight, or shortly after. I checked the Trenitalia website and the latest tickets I could find are at 9:30pm. Can anyone tell me if they have late trains? If not, is there another way? Thanks!

I don't see any later but I do see some very early morning trains. 5:15-6:15 arrival. Would that do?

AllyG3 Aug 20th, 2014 05:02 PM

That's what I found too. Trenitalia doesn't show anything from 11pm until 5am. I need something around midnight....I don't mind if it's 1-2am, but 5am is too late. I don't want to be sitting in the train station for 5 hours!
I thought trains run every hour? Do they not run every hour that late at night?

There's a train at 2:17 that takes a very long time. It arrives at 5:58 with a 21 minute connection in Arezzo at 4:23.

Try a bus. Google buses Bologna to Florence.

I don't think there's much demand for trains at that hour. They do run frequently during the day.

In Arezzo you switch to a bus.

I don't see any buses that late. It looks like the last one is at 18:50.

How about a car service? It will be expensive but you'll get there at the time you want.

I couldn't find any buses either! I'm wondering if getting a hotel would be cheaper than a car service? Is there a website I could look into for a car service?

What were you going to do in Florence if you get there at 12:30 and don't have a hotel? Or do you mean a hotel in Bologna?

You could get a B&B for under $40 in Bologna. I looked up hostels but a lot of the entries seem to be B&Bs.

Are you coming from the airport? If so, there is a bus (20€) from there to a Piazza behind the main Florence train station. Departures at 22:00 and 00:30.

I'm staying in Florence, but will be at a concert in Bologna and it goes until midnite. I need to get back to Florence after the concert. Thanks for the info on the B&B's! Normally I'd prefer a B&B over a hotel, but I'd feel better about going to a hotel after midnite (front desk service) rather than a B&B (not sure the owner would have that late of a check-in). So, I found a decent hotel for $75 a nite at a nearby hotel, but I'd really just rather get back to my hotel in Florence. I looked into a car service and it looks to be around $200 USD. Ugh...I don't know what to do!!!

With such a late concert I wonder why you just didn't plan on staying over in Bologna that night in the first place. There are few places anywhere that trains depart throughout the night.

AllyG3 Aug 20th, 2014 05:56 PM

I thought the trains run through the night and being that it is only a 40 min train ride I thought I would just go right back to my hotel in Florence. I guess I will have to get a hotel; seems to be the only/best option at this point.

Here's the bus if you decide to catch it.

according to kybourbon's link the last bus is @ 00:30 so if you dash you might make it . . .

Thanks...it looks like that bus leaves from the airport, correct? If so, that is over an hour from the Estragon (concert), so I do think that is doable. But, I appreciate the suggestion!!
