I'm guessing the post was moved off the Europe forum since it's not about travel. It's off-topic chit-chat (meant to be funny according to texas_son himself) so better belongs in The Lounge.

Do Italian women like American Men?it depends..

I Dont think that I consider myself a "Hot Italian woman" but I am married to a charming American from texas that I met in Frankfurt while on vacation.

BTW J_R, you are wrong about the texan accent..As a matter of fact I dont have any problem understanding it or the American accent ..

One accent that most of the time I can't understand is the English accent..
When I watch a movie on netflix I always use subtitles..is the only way that I can enjoy the movie.

If American women think you're a complete toad, don't expect that to change too much just because you crossed an ocean. Same goes for if American women think you're a good guy.

Honestly, if you act like a nice guy and not a jerk, you'll be just fine.

Maybe you'd better keep quiet. If you are good looking, I have a feeling your words might cancel out what you've got going for you.

Thank you everyone.
I've never been accused of being either good looking OR a toad & I'm certainly no George Clooney but I hold my own here at home.
My profile picture isn't the best, but it's recent.

On the plus side, Italian men are overwhelmingly momma's boys, so you might catch the occasional Italian woman in search of something approximating a real man, but Italy wouldn't be the first place I'd go looking for "love". Eastern Europe is still the better place to go.

If American women fall over Italian men, it's because so many of the men are so short they simply get underfoot.

Well, someone had to say it, so I thought I'd save you the bother

I was actually wondering how the women in Italy react to American men.

OK, let's get really real here:

What do you look like?
Are you a jerk?
Do you have a lot of money?

Answer those honestly (yeah, right) and then we'll continue with the lessons.

I was talking about French people who have learned Standard English, not American English.

Standard English is taught in French schools, they can understand the British, New Yorkers, Californians etc, but not Texans.

Apparently

@ dukey1
1. there is a picture on my profile..I consider myself average looking.
2. I am not a jerk, in fact just the opposite. I was raised to treat a woman like a lady until she proves herself otherwise.
That being said, I am a perfect gentleman.
3. I own my own business and make a comfortable living.

@ ToRetain
I do not speak Italian & I am certainly not a cad. I am recently divorced after 20 years with the same woman. I am quite rusty when it comes to meeting and chatting up the opposite sex. I am celebrating my divorce with a week in Italy.

In all things romance, it is best to follow the advice of Barney Stinson:

"Now remember my three beginner’s tips for picking up chicks: Address her by name, isolate her from her friends, subtly put her down."

texas-son, women all over the world fall for guys from every country.

Forget travelgourmet's advice.

Start practicing Italian and get good basic knowledge of the the history, the culture and the food of area you're going.

#1 You're too old to just be hanging out wanting to meet chicks. You're not too old to meet someone interesting who is not just a chick.

#2 Have a geniune interest in where you are and it won't matter if you meet someone.

#3 Since you have a geniune interest in where you are and can entertain yourself the odds of meeting someone interesting are getting better all the time.

#4 If you do make eyes with someone maybe she would be willing to help you practice your new langauge skills, while touring a museum or something.

Forget my advice? The appeal of my advice is that it is both timeless and universal. You can use it in any country. Learning Italian? That seems like too much effort for a casual fling.

Well the 20 years out of circulation starts to explain your apparent attitude. You are coming across as a sleaze looking for cheap thrills without paying for them. If you are actually interested in meeting an interesting Italian woman (as opposed to Lolitas that fling themselves at you - which will NOT happen) you can certainly be open to meeting appropriate women during your travels, Try taking some of the walking tours in Italy and you might find some interesting single women - whether Italian from elsewhere - with whom you have something in common.

But if you go in with a "fall all over you attitude" you are leaving yourself open to one of those scams in which glamorous young women do fall all over you, ask you to take them to a bar (filled with their "heavy" friends) where you will be lured into buying them very expensive bottles of "champagne" and possibly rolled when you leave.

How do you treat women once they prove themselves to not be ladies?

Seriously, LSky has given you the best advice. You will enjoy yourself whether you find a companion or not.

American men/you look fine, my only concern is about them is their voice. Soft is good, whiny, heard surprisingly often, is not.
