Do italian girls like american guys?
Yeah I am going to Rome next semester and I was wondering if Italian girls generally like American guys. It seems like American girls like European guys. I was just wondering if it worked the other way around.

John, I don't want to discourage you, but Italian men are mostly good looking and very well dressed. If you are good looking, and don't go out in the evening wearing shorts and sneakers, then maybe!
As a European female who studied in the USA, I must say that I was not tempted to trade in my European boyfriend while I was there.

I don't want to discourage you either but you probably already know that how you dress isn't what the really interested "girls" (and I do think you really ought to re-consider your use of THAT term, unless YOU enjoy being called a "boy" will be looking at.

if you have good luck at home with the ladies then you will probably be ok. if you don't do very well there, then i would not expect your fortunes to change just because you are an american in a foreign land.

Ira, we're in the 21st century now, so please feel free to join us. (I know you gave a tongue-in-cheek post, and thought I'd offer you the same, in the spirit of playfulness and friendship.)
Johnt3psu, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for an Italian girl to swoon, if I were you!

Assuming your question is serious - no.
In my experience (not massive I admit, but I did date 3 european students in college) in europe a 20/22 year old is a man - while in the US they are still usually boys - and treat women like one of the guys and an accessory to the football season.
At that age europeans seem more mature, more sophisticated and more considerate/ attentive - which is I think what the women are responding to - not just a different accent.

"Degas" has a good point, because that's kind of the stereotype of many Italian boys/men -- and they sometimes treat women/girls like quarry, although they can be a lot smoother about it than American guys, charming and utterly insincere.
If an Italian GIRL is going to like you, it'll be because she imagines you are like some American stereotype movie star/character she's seen and likes; and she may not even mind if you treat her like a quick adventure. But an Italian WOMAN is going to like you if you are not insincere, not self-absorbed, and not full of why America is great and Italy/Europe owes the US so much.
As to why American girls/women like European guys/men, it is probably the combination of charm (they look us in the eyes and make a show of listening to us, unlike a lot of American males) and poise (not wearing shorts and clunky cross-trainers, not talking loudly and kind of bumping into walls, and not ignoring social rules as too "snotty".

I can't speak for Italian girls, but the Italian WOMEN I know are *fed up* with Italian men. What do you do when you're over 30 and all the men your age are still living at home with Mamma because she cooks and cleans for them, does their laundry and constantly tells them how handsome and adorable they are? And doesn't charge them rent so they can freely spend their money on their cars, their clothes, their haircuts, their sunglasses?
While setting up a booth at a recent conference with Italian lady colleagues, I made the mistake of mentioning that I thought Italian men were charming and sexy. BOY did I get an earful! My collegas like American men--so relaxed, so handy around the house, so lavish with compliments on their cooking (instead of complaining that it's not as good as Mamma's), so willing to MOVE OUT OF MAMMA'S HOUSE.

I think BTilke's take is a little off. The housing crisis in the city-centers is a much bigger cause than being a momma's boy. Every Italian mother I know would love their sons to move out and the sons would love it, too. Try finding an Italian who will sell or rent to an Italian with the current occupancy laws and the current prices.
