Do I need train tix in advance

Departing cruise ship on 9/19 heading to Padua via train. Do I need to purchase tix now ? We will be in Venice 4 days prior to our cruise down the adriatic. Could I / should I get them when we first arrive in Venice for a departure 10 days down the road?

I was in Italy for a month last Sept. and bought train tickets as needed, not in advance. I did use a travel agency that did not charge for this service. It was helpful as tickets lines could be long at the station and at times the ticket machines confused me.

Have fun!

There are many trains all day long between Venezia SL and Padova. I would not prepurchase these.

Sorry for the double post. Meant to add, Padova is quite close to Venice, another reason so many trains go there.

Lots of trains, even buses, a boat goes most of the way and you could take a bike on the bike path. Basically an urban commute.
