Do I need a triple?
 

I realize this may be a dumb question...

I am looking at apartments in Rome for me, my husband and 7yo daughter. I'm trying to figure out if I can get a double room and just ask for a cot or rollaway, or if I need to book a triple room.

Can anyone help?

You can ask either way - - a triple room may in many cases, simply be a double room, into which they cram another twin bed (or rollaway).

If you are looking for apartments, then you need one that says that it sleeps 3.

And it would not be unusual for an apartment to say "sleeps 3" - - with only one (double) bed, and one sofa (or some other less than ideal option for the third person, especially if a child).

I wouldn't ask for a "cot", because in British English that is a crib, and Italins might be used to that meaning. You definitely need to get this clarified at the time of booking, as it will be hard to get what you need if you ask for it once you are there.

As WillTravel says - don't look for a specific type of bed arrangement. Just pay attention to the number of people the flat sleeps. Many, (most actually) 1-bedroom flats sleep 3 or 4 w/ either a day bed, futon, or sofa sleeper in the livingroom.

And definitely don't request a cot. Your 7-yo will likely object to sleeping in a cradle or crib :)
