Do I need a transformer?

Hi Everyone, I've enjoyed reading everyone's postings. They have helped a lot. I'm going to be in Italy from 6/26-7/11. I was wondering how any of you charged up your cell phones or camera batteries?

Your cell phone probably came with a charger that plugs into the wall. You might be able to plug right into the outlet in your hotel; if not, you'd just need the adaptor plug with the pins that are configured to fit the outlet. I don't recharge camera batteries for my model.

Look at the raised print/white sticker on your charger. If you see something like 110/240, it's dual voltage and all you'll need is a plug adapter.

To second djkbooks comment - check the power adapter on your charger very carefully - if it DOESN'T say 110/240 and you plug it in, you're going to fry your batteries.

If the item doesn't use 220-250V then DON'T buy a transformer, buy a proper multivoltage power supply instead. They have them on ebay for pennies

alanRow,

I went to ebay but they had so much converter/transformer. I usually bring a transformer with me and it is very heavy so I was wondering what exactly is a multivoltage power supply? I am so sorry I am a little confused. Could you help me? Is a multivoltage power supply some kind of a plug you attached to your US Plug? Thank you in advance.

Try Radio Shack or Samsonite.

Hi

My cell phone charger, lap top cord etc are ready for both 110V and 220V so I have not had a problem with this. The only thing I have needed is a plug converter in order to get the plug into the wall :-)

HI CG,

>..what exactly is a multivoltage power supply?<

The poster was referring to a 110/220 V battery charger.

What are you bringing that you need a transformer.
