Do I leave a tip in Seville or Lisbon?

While in Lisbon, I never noticed anything that indicated service was already included. I always added an amount to the charge slip just like I would do in the US. However, there is no actual place for a tip on the charge slips. When I received my credit card statement, the restaurant total and the tip amount showed up as two separate transactions. P.S. I did respond to one of your posts about our trip to Lisbon, but it disappeared when I went to post it. If you still have any questions, please ask and we'll try again.

In many restaurants in Europe, the server does not get the tip if you put it on the credit card. The restaurant owner keeps it. Always best to leave cash. I have always been told to tip 10% at the better restaurants in Lisboa, spare change at cafes where you would just order coffee, wine, or a small snack. (My ex-husband lives in Lisboa.)
