Do I have time to catch the train in Bari?

We are arriving in Bari by ferry at 8:00 a.m. Will we have enough time to get to the train station to catch a 9:45 a.m. train to Rome?

If the ship is punctual, you'll have plenty of time. Bus route 20/ goes from the port to Piazza Moro in front of Bari Centrale station, but they are normally every 40 minutes.

Taxis are normally plentiful but will try to overcharge.
There are two terminals in the port. Ferries from Greece arrive at the modern cruise terminal. Ferries from Croatia, Montenegro and Albania use the older Stazione Marittima

Be aware of the Bari ferry from Dubrovnik...it cancelled out on us last minute two years ago due to "exceptionally high seas" which is not an unusual thing we were told by people who used the connection occasionally. We had to change a string of plans, ended up flying to Rome from Split on Easter weekend.

"Exceptionally high seas" are unusual in the Adriatic.
If you're crossing from Dubrovnik to Bari, you should allow for possible delays in the port. This morning, for example, three ferries were due into Bari at 0800 from Albania.
The Greek ferries use a different terminal and there should be fewer delays in disembarking as it is a Schengen country.

Geoff...guess we ran into that unusual condition, then. Besides, it was Easter Weekend, and many passengers suspected that the Captain wanted to stay home with his family, hence the cancellation. Logical, eh.
