i think the french are used to adjusting their clothing (or lack thereof) to local norms for beachwear. US is certainly not the only place in the world where topless bathing is not widely acceptable.

This is a hard one.....No I don't think europeans worry as much but Yes all women like to look well but maybe the emphasis is not on what clothes you are wearing but that you like them yourself and comfortable wearing them. I see this from both sides of the pond but I have been living in Ireland for 10 yeras now.
When I go home I do feel I am dressed slightly different. I also find the Womens clothes in the U.S. just a tad dry and conservative. Maybe we are more mutton dressed as Lambs over here but I am not ready to dress like my mum quite yet. My clothes are far from high end designer but I make the effort and mix up things. I got a cheapish leather jacket ion TK Maxx in Dublin and everyone in NJ admired it whren I went for a visit...it was probably an American brand but what I wore it with my friend says looks different and European. To be honest I care more about the people I am with and I am far more relaxed about my appearance than when I lived in the U.S. Who cares what you wear as long as you like it and it's not illegal
