Diving from Paris to amsterdam, to prauge, to paris
Hi I am currently living in Paris. A friend is coming to visit for a week, ands I was wondering what everyones thoughts are on driving to Amsterdam, to Prague and then back. I know driving to Amsterdam is about 5 hours. How long would it take to drive to Prague ? I just want the most direct route. And from Prague to Paris how long is that ?
Any help would be great. I already have a list of the rental companies. I know to look fopr unliminted miles included in the price. And we are going to try to rent from Gare Montparnarse...Can we do this is 3 days ? 4 ? Thanks... |
Do you plan to do anything other than drive?...
plunk your route into a planner like www.viamichelin.com or www.mappy.com and check the distances and driving times... |
3 or 4 days? Do a round-trip by train to Amsterdam or check for cheap round-trip flights to Prague. Doing both cities makes little sense.

Not if you ever plan on geting out of the car.
Paris to Amsterdam: 5 hours - no stops Amsterdam to Prague: 9 hours - no stops Prague to Paris: 11 hours - no stops So in 3 days you could do the driving, grab quick snacks, sleep and do the same the next day. No chance to see anything at all. You would get out of the car only for potty stops - or to put in gas. And this assumes no bad weather, no accidents and no road work. Close to insanity IMHO. To do this trip and actually see anything I would take at least 9 days. |
Ok. I cut Amsterdam out of the trip...
Thanks for your advice. Ive been there several times, no need to go again... Anyone know any beautiful routes from Paris to Prague ? Or know anything about the parking sitation in Prague ? THANK YOU !! |

If you share the driving duties with your friend, one taking naps while the other keeps the hammer down, you will spend one very long day in the car going the fastest possible route, with nothing pretty to see and nowhere to stop for pleasure.
Then you'll have a night and a day and a night in Prag, and another very long day alternating driving and napping with your friend while rushing back to Paris. Your friend will think you're crazy. Instead, I suggest you fly to Prag or drive to Amsterdam. And if you've been there before, why not take an early TGV to Avignon and rent a car there? Explore the Provence and relax on a late TGV back to Paris on day 3. Just a thought. Have a wonderful trip! WK |
Hi J,
>I am currently living in Paris. A friend is coming to visit for a week, ands I was wondering what everyones thoughts are on driving to Amsterdam, to Prague and then back.< Is your friend so jaded with Paris that she/he would want to go somewhwere else? Why not take the train to Bruges for a day or an overnight. See www.sncf.com ((I)) |
