Distance-Marseille Airport to Train Station
Can someone tell me how far it is from the Airport in Marseille to the Train Station? I need to book a train from Marseille to Avignon, but I'm trying to figure out how much time to allow in between (for luggage retrieval, taxi, etc.).
Thanks in advance for any assistance you can offer.

There was a popst on this subject a few weeks ago - from memory I think there was a frequent shuttle bus from the airport to the station, but cannot remember how long it took.
There are plenty of trains from Marseille to Avignon, so rather than try and juggle air flights being on time and luggage retreival etc., why not just turn up at Marseille station and book onto the next train - should'nt be a problem.

I'd like to follow up the suggestion that I wait and purchase tickets when I arrive at the rail station rather than pre-purchasing them. I just went to the Raileurope site - not to purchase tickets, but to get the rail schedules for a general idea of when I could travel. The only trains listed for my trips (Marseille/Avignon,Avignon/Lyon and Lyon/Paris) are TGV's. The site indicates that you must have a reservation for TGV's.
Is this as simple as making the reservation at the purchase window? Or is this actually an "in advance" reservation? Since reading the other thread about Raileurope fees, I'm inclined to buy my tix at the station, but this reservation thing is a little confusing.
Thanks for any clarification you can offer.

Throughout most of the day there are two or three trains an hour from Marseille to Avignon, just over half of them are TGVs - not all.
On TGVs you do need a seat reservation, at an axtra cost of around $6, but you can obtain these when purchasing your travel ticket at Marseille - no need to reserve in advance.
Except on major National Holiday days it is very rare for a TGV to be full, so there is really no need to worry about advance booking. The journey time on both TGVs and ordinary trains is about one hour. At present the TGVs are no faster on the Marseille-Avignon run as the tracks have not yet been upgraded for really high speed. This will change in June this year, when a new line opens.
Just turn up and go on the next train is still my advice.

Have just re-read your second post and noticed the reference to Avignon/Lyon and Lyon/Paris. For these journeys I would suggest you book both legs at Avignon, by which time your your timings will be clearer. For example on the Lyon/Paris legs there are half hourly TGVs which are also double decker trains, Only the business peak trains are likely to be nearly full, i.e.,between 6 and 9 a.m. ex Lyon.
