Distance from Munich to Freiburg

How far is it from Munich to Freiburg? Is the trip worth it? Can you recommend any where closer for a day trip?

Freiburg? Wow ... The distance is about 400km ... 4 hours if you drive fast, 4 1/2 hours by train with changes.

Many closer places to consider (Salzburg, Augsburg, Chiemsee, Garmish, castles in Schwangau ...)

Paulo
Jennifer: I agreee with Paulo, there are closer and maybe better places for a day trip from Munich. Freiburg is not what I would consider a "day trip".

Paulo also makes some good suggestions, and no knock on any, my suggestion would be Garmisch.

You can drive down in a short time and visit the charming city of Garmisch-Partenkirchen just walking around town and even taking in the cows returning from pasture as they walk right down the main street. A very short drive will get you to the cable car taking you to the top of the Zugspitze ("top" of Germany), to neaby Linderhof Castle, then Ettal and the beautiful basilica, Oberammergau (home of the "Passion Play") and even Steingaden to see the Wieskirche. There are many things to see and do and all of them are very close to one another.

I'd check into that. Good luck!

Most definitely way too far for a day trip!
In addition to the above suggestions, consider Ulm (with the world's tallest church spire and the birthplace of Einstein), and Landshut.

I've been to all the places mentioned, and for my money, you can't beat Salzburg. It's just a one hour drive down the autobahn (itself designated a scenic highway), and the town and surrounding scenery is magnificent.

Great suggestions above. My two choices would be
1) Salzburg
2) Garmisch-Partenkirchen
