Directions in London Question

I will be trying to get on Boxing Day from the city inn Westminster (tube Pimlico or Westminster) to dinner at the Narrows at 44 Narrow Street E148DP (Limehouse area) in the early evening. Any suggestions for route?

If we first decide to go for a long sightseeing walk, are there any other tube stations that you would suggest we end up in for easier access to Limehouse?

Finally, would a taxi be a better alternative?

thanks in advance

This is great for getting routes and times etc:

It has various suggestions - most taking around an hour.

District or Circle Line from Westminster to Monument, walk downstairs to Bank station on the DLR - from there to Limehouse (on Boxing Day, trains will run every 15 minutes or so).

Don't be put off by the depressing aspect of Limehouse station entrance - it's about 5-10 minutes' walk from here. Turn left, left again, carry on to the main road, cross over (this is very important, the other way takes in quite the wrong way down the Rotherhithe Tunnel). Turn right alongside the posh flats to Horseferry Road and follow it round to Narrow St.

Here's the location:

Unfortunately there is no way to avoid the most depressing words it's possible to hear in London* "Change at Bank". This means bring sherpas and three day's supplies, and start fitness training now.

*apart from the Aussie ments in the lopunge trying to make out that Sydney is fit to be mentioned in the same breath as London. Sydney isn't fit to be mentioned in the same breath as Penge or Rotherham.

It is easier from Monument: a dozen or so stairs up and down from one District/Circle platform to the other, and from there it's two escalators down, but a longish walk between the two. The route from Bank (which is irrelevant here) is a bit of a pain at the moment because there's an escalator or two under repair.

Reading the OP fully, an alternative might be - if you're in the area of the Tower anyway - Tower Gateway DLR station, or the 15 bus which runs out to Limehouse and beyond from central London.

Thanks for all the help!

Agree that it's no hassle to change at Monument/Bank - the DLR platforms were pretty much built into the gap between the two stations. Changing from the Central Line to the DLR is the long haul trek.
