dinning in Edinburgh

My wife and two friends will be visiting Edinburgh for five days (four nights) and would like recommendations for dinner. We would like to find "special places" with a Scotish or european cuisine, (streak house if a special place is also fine). Price is not an issue, althought value (ambiance and food quality) is important. We have booked the Witchery for one evening, can you recommend any great places for the three other nights?

Thanks,

JS

The Witchery is very cute - and there's nothing wrong with the food - but the only thing really "special" is the decor. We ate in 2 other reco'd places in Edinburgh - and I must admit they were not memorable - there must be really super places that the locals are keeping a secret.

I really enjoyed Skippers on Dock Place in Leith. www.skippers.co.uk.

Also in Leith, the Kings Wark at 36 The Shore, has great pub food.

Stac Polly does Scottish food, and so do branches of Howies. Oh, and the brasserie at the Scotsman.

Ditto for the North Bridge Brasserie at the Scottsman Hotel. Very good.

Also Maison Bleue on Victoria Street. This is a tiny cozy restaurant with about 30 seats jammed in French style. Excellent.

this place is one I quite like ,more of a wine bar that serves food than a proper resturant ,but a great place to spend your whole evening, more of a 30's plus crowd but the food is very good.a lot of fish dishes but all frsh a very tasty, their Cullin Skink is very good.
I am having a meal there again with some friends on Friday night.
