Dinner on the Seine
 

So it's back to Paris, and I'm wondering if any of you have taken a Seine dinner cruise. If so, was it worth the price? We've done it during the day, but never a dinner cruise. Also, Vaux le Vicomte(sp?) anyone been there?

I feel the food could be better for the money. I guess it is a question of personal choice. I did it once ages ago.

The dinners are overpriced, especially given the quality. Save your money and have dinner at a restaurant before or after an evening cruise.

Vaux le Vicomte is well worth a visit. It's not easy to get there, but there's now a train/bus/taxi connection to get you to the château.

DON'T DO IT! The cruise is a must do, but the dinner cruise is not! My parents wanted to do this last year so we did and the food was terrible! The wine was free flowing though and so an arguement could be made that after a while the food doesn't matter. Better to eat dinner before or after. The Bataeaux off the Pont du Neuf leave every 30 minutes throughout the night. Same day reservations in summer are easy and there are many restaurants in the area to go to before or after your cruise.

I am going to be the contrarian here. My wife and I have taken the Bateux Mouches dinner cruise twice, and thoroughly enjoyed both. As I recall it was about 100 Euro per person, which covered the 2.5 hour dinner cruise, four-course meal, a bottle of champagne, and a bottle of wine per couple. While I'm sure it was not Michelin-star quality, the meal was delicious. The whole experience was very nice. We booked through our hotel each time, and the dress code is enforced- coat and tie for men. So for what that's worth, there is at least one good operation of that type, IMHO.

Some people do enjoy the dinner cruises, it's hard to say if someone will think it worth the price, as opinions on that vary, as well as what a price should buy.

I've been to Vaux-le-Vicomte and it's an interesting and attractive chateau. It takes up a lot of time going to/from due to its location, so I wouldn't spend a whole day on that if I'd never been to Paris before or had other things I really knew I wanted to do. I didn't enjoy it any more than some others, like Fontainebleau, which is a lot easier to get to (and I thought was superior in several ways, including gardens).
