dinner in Trondheim?
hello again,
Was wondering if anyone might have suggestions on good restaurants in Trondheim that serve reindeer (we're dying to try it!). We're looking for something nice but not overly expensive. Any suggestions are welcome! Oh, and also, we're staying for one night in Alsfjord, on the Fosen. If anyone has any restaurant suggestions for up there, those are welcome also! |
Is it Åfjord you are staying? You will not find many restaurants in Åfjord, but I guess the Fjord Hotel has a restaurant.
Try Palmehaven at Britannia Hotel. They serve raindeer: http://www.britannia.no/psmaler/stan...rId=1011613092 |
Trondheim has a lot nice restaurants. Don't remember any names but I had a nice meal in a restaurant area on the docks. Very nice town!

There's two places that I can think of, one called Bryggen in one of the warehouses along the Nidelven river, close to the old bridge called the Gamle Bybro; and the other further out called Tavern Pa Sverresborg that serves traditional food. You can also ask at your hotel, as well as the locals, most of whom speak better English than I do, and all of whom are extremely friendly.
For more traditional food and very reasonable, there's a bar/restaurant on or near the corner of Krambugata and Angellsgt. that is great (I had the fiskepanne). Forgot the name but it started with a "K". They also had the best french fries ever. |
Hi! Many thanks for your posts!
Kaja, yes, we're staying one night in Afjord (sorry for the mispelling). There is a restaurant at the hotel we are staying at. Do you know much about Afjord, yourself? We chose it because it looked picturesque, being situated on the coast. I hope we've made a good choice . . . |
We spent a day in Trondheim on our honeymoon. It is a charming town, but like combining "not overly expensive" and Norway is a bit of an oxymoron. We splurged on an excellent seafood platter at Havrfruen. Bryggen, Palmehaven and Jonathan (the latter two in the Britannia, where we stayed) seemed comparible, and had more meat dishes. I will attest to going out of the way to try reindeer. We tried it earlier in Bergen (at Bryggeloftet & Stuene) and found it to be excellent.
