Dinner in Lugano
 

I will be in Lugano in mid-September. Do you have a recommendation for dinner - casual or nice?

You don't seem to be having much luck, ALK. We took the lakeboat to Gandria to eat in a small restaurant perched over the blue-green water. Don't know it this is even a possibility in the early evening. I wonder if Karen Brown's Swiss Inns might mention the dining at one of her hotel recommendations. Worth a try. J.

I'll dig into my notes - we had a really super meal in Lugano that was a bit out of the tourist way...we walked and walked and walked until a taxi finally stopped and drove us up this small hill behind this residential area to the great little restuarant - we never would have found it on our own.
We didn't speak the language - couldn't order to save our lives so we just asked our waiter in French just to bring us what he liked...and he did - course after course after course of fabulous seafood dishes culminating with a huge grilled seafood plattter for the two of us to share. It was out of this world.
Then dessert more wine and digestif. The atmosphere was great - a little home kitchen feeling. We still talk about that meal. It was a casual place crowed with locals (and us). I'll dig through my notes and get the name for you...you have to like seafood though.
