dinner in Bayeux
 

Spending two nights at the Lion d'Or with wife and 3 children (age 3, 12 and 14). Wondering if we should do the half board and thus have dinner both nights at the Hotel or whether it would be more interesting to "wing it" and find something nearby.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I would go for eating in Bayeux. We stayed outside Bayeux a few years ago and ate all our meals in town. I don't remember the names but we just parked downtown and looked around until we found something interesting. There is a McDonalds if your kids want to go there. We actually ate there and had a great time, it was overflowing with people and next to a food store that you can shop around in.

Dinner at the Lion d'Or is wonderful, but I wouldn't ever saddle myself with half-board if I didn't have to.

Le Petit Normand in Bayeux is wonderful.

We very much enjoyed our dinner at Le Pommier after a blustery day touring the D-Day Beaches. Bayeux has no shortage of good restaurants!

Le Petit Bistro is another great place in Bayeux; it is very small and owned by a young couple.

You should definetly wing it,
If your kids enjoy seafood, you can get loads of it in Port en Bessin, along with snack places with crepes, waffles, hotdogs. The beach in Port en Bessin is really nice for shell collecting(unusual scallop looking shells). Port en Bessin is just outside of Bayeux.

In Bayeux my kids drank the cider, the locals said that it is normal there for kids to drink it, and the acohol content was very low. We preferred the pear over the apple.

We did stop at the Mcdonalds in Bayeux, we were needing a drink and a restroom break. Try the croque monsieur, my daughter loved the one at this Mcdonalds. Also have your wife take your 3 yr old into the restroom, there is the smallest working toilet I have ever seen (really cute for a 3 yr old). Have a great time!

I second Port-en-Bessin for seafood. Red Lobster this ain't!
