Dinkelsbuhl and Regensberg
 

I have heard very different opinions about Dinkelsbuhl. Some said it is noisy, dirty and boring, others said it is charming and peaceful. Which is nearer to the truth? <BR>And do you think that it is worth staying overnight in Regensberg or a day trip from Nurnberg is enough? <BR> <BR>Thanks, <BR> <BR>mast

Mast: Regensburg is a nice place and may warrant an overnight stay. I've only day-tripped there, but enjoyed it. <BR> <BR>Dinkelsbuhl is interesting with it's ramparts, cobblestone streets and moat. We stayed last summer at the Hotel Goldene Rose which is 500+ years old, well kept and comfortable. Unlike Rothenburg, Dinklesbuhl is dirty, noisy and not well-maintained. There are empty stores and buildings which suggest a lack of tourist dollars (Marks) enabling the town to take care of the usual everyday maintenance required. <BR> <BR>I'm not saying to avoid it, but Rothenburg, as "touristy" as it is, is a much better choice to visit. <BR> <BR>Good luck!

I agree with previous poster. Stay in Rothenburg. Day trip to Dinklesbuhl if necessary. Reichs Kutchenmeister is great place to stay in Rothenburg.

Hello from Vienna! <BR>I am german and I know Regensburg and Nuernberg very well. They are both good for a day trip. You will enjoy it. Old culture and history. I know nothing special about Dinkelbuehl. It is not a must see - I think. <BR>Best regards <BR>Silvia

Although Dinkelsbuhl does not have much to offer, it is a beautiful Germany town. As to it being noisy and dirty, I have been there several times and have not encountered these problems. If you want to go to a typical German tourist town, try Rothenburg. <BR> <BR>

I found regensberg to be a wonderful surprise. It is a great place to spend a night. The thing I enjoyed most is that it was a working city. It was a great place to stroll through shops and their is a nice pedestrian mall. It is very relaxed and a highlight was eating at the 850 year old wurdtkirche--There are tables outside and only one menu choice -- sausages and kraut. I found the city to be an ideal stopover between munich and Prague.

If time is not a problem, see all 3. Otherwise, Regensburg, then Rothenburg. Dinkelsbuhl is really nice but Rothenburg better.

We just returned from Germany and we enjoyed both Rothenburg (a little touristy) and Dinkelsbuhl. Dinkelsbuhl has more cars in the walled area but quaint and charming. <BR> <BR>Suggested hotel in Rothenburg would be Hotel Garni-Hornburg just outside the old city wall. It's a B&B, very nice, clean, great included breakfast, very nice and knowledgeable hosts.

As Pete suggested, Regensburg is a great stop if you are driving between Munich and Prague. That's how we came to visit that city in 1997 and we were very pleased we did. Great tour of the Town Hall (the medieval torture dungeons were a little too real for me, though...). <BR> <BR>Dinkelsbuhl is your ultimate gingerbread town. Good choice if traveling with kids for soda/coffee and pastries at the main street. I didn't noticed any particular dirt or noise, but Rothenburg is indeed a far better choice for an overnight.
