Dining Suggestions for Ireland Vacation - Sept
 

Hello All!

Thanks to all of the information on this website, I have easily booked my first trip out of the US. We are spending two weeks in Ireland and I booked my accomodations, mainly B&B's. We have a somewhat assertive itinerary, yet there seems to be so much to see and so little time. I would like to pull together a list of potential places we would like to eat. Note, I dont want to lock into eating at certain places at certain times, but simply want a list of suggestions to use if we dont stumble upon something during our journey. I am familar with trip advisor, so I will use that in conjunction with suggestions provided here.

The trip will be my husband and myself, in our early forties. We are looking for casual places, local fare, moderate prices but dont mind occasional splurge (as long as we dont have to dress up :)). We are not big drinkers, usually just order water, but are very interested in our trying our first pint of Guiness.

We are staying in Clifden, Inishmore, Galway, Doolin, Dingle, Kenmare, Kinsale, Kilkenny, Wicklow, Dublin. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Off the top of my head:

Wicklow: The Wicklow Heather - it's actually, in Laragh, near Wicklow Mountains National Park and close to Glendalough

Kilkenny: The Marble City Bar

Doolin: Gus O'Connors Pub (I love their stew)

Kenmare: I remember having a nice meal at an Italian place called Prego.

It's not a place with typical pub fare, but the Blue Zone in Dingle has a really good steak! Also known for their tasty pizza. And located right next to Dick Mack's pub.

We found our hosts at the B and B's where we stayed in most places in Ireland gave excellent recommendations-and very good directions. Just ask when you arrive-many will even call and make a reservation for you if needed. That's one of the great things about a B and B!!

We just came back from a nine day trip. We only visited Dublin, Dingle, and Galway as we prefer slow travel, but we ate some fabulous meals while there.

Dublin: Bull & Castle was delicious

Dingle: Out of the Blue and The Half Door were both really good for a splurge, and if you like seafood. You'll need to book reservations for Out of the Blue the day before, and possibly earlier, depending on when you're visiting.
I had the best fish and chips of the trip at Moriarty's in Dingle, as well.
Murphy's ice cream is as good as everyone says it is.

Galway: We were only there for two nights, but both were disappointing. Garvey's was a really awful meal. I'm not sure if they were just having an off night, or if they're always bad, though.

Thanks so much! I really appreciate the suggestions (and what to avoid). My husband thinks ice cream is its own food group with a daily requirement (sortof kidding), so greatly appreciate the ice cream suggestion.

oh Murphy's! It's probably best that I didn't discover it until almost the end of my trip,..
