Dining in Paris
 

Can anyone suggest moderately priced restaurants near Eiffel Tower and the Rodin Museum? Great food, great atmosphere, fair prices. Suggestions outside those areas also appreciated.

La Fontaine de mars, 129 rue saint Dominique is a typic french bistrot, with a nice atmosphere.

My wife and I just returned after spending two weeks in central Paris. We had been there several times over the past 35 years, so we knew the territory.

There are many reasonably priced places to eat, especially at noontime. We found food prices, however, much higher than in the U.S. by about a factor of 2.

You will find "formule" lunches/dinners posted on chalkboards, prices ranging from 13.50 to 17.00 Euros in many places. This usually means you choose from a selection of five or six "starters" plus from five or six main dishes ("entrees"). Or between those entrees and five or six desserts. Wine would be extra, in most cases.

We found that lunch for two in a nice place in the area you specify would cost anywhere from $37 to $60. To us, that seemed high.

But you are in central Paris, the quality (and rentals) are quite high, and the service was included. I know there will be "foodies" on this forum who prefer much fancier places, and that is their privilege.

We had rented an apartment (but that's another story) and had our breakfasts and most evening meals there.

We walked to Rue Cler from the Eiffel Tower for lunch. Ate a very cheap but excellent lunch at Le Diplomate. It is just a bar/brasserie. It was October, so we were able to sit outside.Mu pate sandwich was only 3 euros and OH had the best omelette for 6 euros. Service was very friendly and house wine perfectly acceptable. Lots of local business people eating there.

Nearer the Rodin is Les Olivades on rue Segur.
There are MANY restaurants in the area of rue Cler. Do a search for "rue Cler restaurants".
Bistrot du 7eme is at 59 blvd Latour Mauborg and is a great bargain with good food.
