Dining in Chianti
 

Can anyone recommend a good casual restaurant in the Chianti area of Tuscany? I will be traveling with a 4 year old so 3 hour gourmet meals are out for this trip. <BR>I will be staying near Greve. Thanks for your help.

A fine restaurant in Greve where a lot of locals come to eat you'll find next to the tourist information (look for the 'I' sign). <BR>It's called pizzaria ..., If I remember <BR>well but it offers much more dishes than <BR>just pizzas (there's also a bar nextdoor) The restaurants in the central market place are rather touristic and more expensive. <BR>

There's a nice restaurant in Lornano, which is south of Greve. Take the SS 222 south, go through Castellina, and past Fonterutoli. After a series of switchbacks, there will be a paved road on the right, which may be signposted to either "Tuopina" or "Lornano", or you may see a sign to the Hotel San Leonino. Take this right, go past the hotel on the left, and keep going until you get into Lornano (very, very small). The restaurant is on your right, on the main road. <BR> <BR>This is a very local place. I've eaten there twice last year, and both times the food was very good. The house wine is super (why not - you're right in the middle of Chianti Classico!). In addition, there were families there with children, so this should not be a problem. <BR> <BR>Buon appetito!

Hi Paula, I've traveled twice to Chianti with my son. Once at 2 1/2yrs & again at 3 1/2 yrs. We found that eating a late, long lunch worked out better than a late, long dinner. Then we just snacked later in the evening with items picked up from the COOP or market. Specifically, we found the following to be good: <BR> <BR>Trattoria La Capannina, in San Donato In Poggio. This is just southwest of Greve. <BR> <BR>Il Torrino, on the road between Panzano & San Donato. This is great for lunch, very casual, panini & soups. You eat outdoors on a very large patio with a swing close by! The Hotel Bellavista in Impruneta has a nice restaurant on the top floor. Plus Impruneta has a playground just off the main piazza. Ditto the above comment on the house wines, they are all usually very good. Have fun.
