Dining in Barcelona

Any good places for tapas and for seafood???
Any basic seafood places with the focus on fresh ingredients in the Old Port/Barceloneta/Barri Gothic?
[I do not want to end up in a place full of people with Rick Steves' guides. I do use his guides for practical info, esp. for reservations and such.]
Thank you!
Agnes

Just returned from 5 days in Barcelona and my favorite thing about it was the food!! Every meal was great. Here is a link to my trip report where I list all the places we ate: http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34974589

Our favorite tapas places were:
Cerverseria Catalana in L'Eixample (C/Mallora, 236)
Ciudad Condal in L'Eixample (Rambla Catalyuna, 18)
Cal Pep (Placa de les olles 8)

Do a search "missypie barcelona" and you'll find my trip report from our trip last month. We, too, had good luck with restaurants.

Agnes, actually the best meal I had in my week in Spain was from Rick Steves' book. Look up El Pintor in the Barri Gotic. It was wonderful, very elegant and not another Rick book in sight!!! It was a splurge meal for sure, but worth every penny. My trip report from November is found if you click my name, if you want more suggestions.

went to cal pep twice on our week's vacation to barcelona! it's awesome. my personal fave however, was "vineria del cal" great place, on a really small street i think in the barri gothic. and the bar across the way, "salteria", was really cool too. ;-)

We also enjoyed Cerverseria Catalana.

For seafood you can't get much more fresh or basic than the stalls in the Boqueria market. I have tried Pinotxo and Kiosk Universal and can recommend them both.

In Barceloneta we enjoyed Suquet de l’Almirall, at Passeig Joan de Borbo 65. When a little girl at the table next to us asked what kind of clams came in some dish, the waiter brought out a selection of raw clams of different types so she could pick the one she preferred. Fresh for sure.

I went to Set Portes last summer and had paella and a wonderful platter of fresh grilled fish that I thought about so much that I went back again in February for more.

We enjoyed Cerveseria Catalana so much we went twice, but it was around the corner from our apartment.

My trip report from February is here:
