Dining in and around Pienza?
We're leaving Friday for our 2-week trip to Italy and of course we are very excited. Thanks to all the great threads here, I have some great recommendations of restaurants to try. I'm hoping to find a few more in and around Pienza (say within 30 minutes). So far, I've seen a good recommendation for Latte di Luna in Pienza. Any others in Pienza or nearby towns?
Cheers! Brent |
If you are in Montepulciano the Caffe Poliziano (on the left as you walk up the hill of the old town) is a "must".
|
Thanks for the tip. We are definitely looking forward to Montepulciano. :-)
|
Diva e Maceo and Borgo Buio in Montepulciano are two that would be on my list of places to try. The second is a Slow Food choice.
|
Osteria Leone in Bagno Vignoni. Get a table in the garden if you can and drink the '98 Nobile Avignonesi -- the family's award winning Nobile di Montepulciano.
|
While we found Latte di Luna rather ordinary, Il Rosselino at Piazza di Spagna 4 was memorable. A mom and pop place seating about twenty.

Brent,
One of our very favorites is Osteria La Porta in nearby Montecchiello...if it is warm enough to eat on the terrace, be sure to do so..the view is wonderful, as is the food.. |
For restaurants and other info on Pienza, here is my trip report:
http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34687434 You can skip to the Tuscany portion if you like! Enjoy. |
If you click on the Restaurants on the left side of the screen (http://www.luvtotravel.homestead.com/home.html) you can to go the list of places I dined while in Italy. I spent a week in Montepulciano and had some very good meals.

brent,
this thread will be helpful to us too! Thanks! Dina |
Thanks for the recommendations and pointers so far. Susan, thanks for the pointer to your trip report. It looks quite comprehensive (nice one!) so I printed it out to have a look at on the plane. Cheers!

Brent, thank you for asking this question.
Monica, what a great website you have, very helpful! :) |
Hi Brent,
Highly recommend Taverna Grappolo Blu in Montalcino. Dinner only, not sure if you will need res in April. You can check out my trip report from Sept by searching for Dayle's Solo Trip to Italy. I spent 8 days in Tuscany and Umbria driving, so there may be some details of interest to you. Have a wonderful time and be sure to try Brunello, Rosso di Montalcino, Vin Nobile Montepulciano, and Sagratino di Montefalco. Buon viaggio! |
Monica,
What a great website you have! Thanks for sharing, Dina |
Brent, hope you have a great trip and enjoy Pienza as much as I did!

dina4 and edhodge,
