Dining Alone in Paris
 

Does anyone have recommendations for a great meal in Paris when dining alone?
I felt very comfortable at Atelier de Joel Robuchon where there is counter seating and, of course, marvelous food. I am looking for a similae experience...any suggestions?

If you are referring to the same type of prices and surroundings, sorry, no, I don't have any tips. However, if you don't mind a small, cozy restaurant that has a very old world decor I suggest Le Coupe Chou in the 5th district. It's great for solo diners and the prices are pretty good for Paris. The 32 euro prix fixe menu including dessert is a winner in my opinion.

francophile03, I'm curious about your thinking that Le Coupe Chou is great for solo diners. I ate there ( and loved it!) in May with my husband and another couple, and I probably wouldn't have thought about going there alone. I have this "fantasy solo trip" going on in my mind, and I am compiling a list of places to go.

I see many solo diners..male and female..at Chez Fernand on rue Christine. We've always been warmly welcomed and the food and prices are very good. Check them out on http://www.reservethebest.com

Grandmere, I booked Le Coupe Chou's earliest reservation at 7:30 p.m. That's what I meant by saying that it's fine for solo diners. In fact, another American lady was dining alone at the same time as me.

Head to the 13th for a meal at Au Petit Marguery. You'll be treated very nicely by the staff, and the atmosphere has almost a family feel to it.

No, Parfym, nothing as exciting as "something I haven't told you."! :-) It's just that I would love to go to Paris and not have to be concerned about what those who are with me want to do. I've been to Paris many times and very much enjoy being there with family, showing it to "first-timers",etc., but I'd like some time to just wander wherever I please to my heart's content. I know I'd love it during the day, but my concern is enjoying a leisurely dinner solo. I think I'd eat quickly, and the evening would loom long. I'm working on this!

Chez Fernand looks so nice from the exterior. I found it last year but didn't go, and tried to go this year but it was closed for vacation. Oh well, maybe next year!

I have 2 suggestions for solo dining. First is Ma Salle a Manger, 26 place Dauphine 75001. Very small wine bar with cozy atmosphere, really good food and wine (by the bottle or glass), and great service. The owner and her staff are so personable that, while dining solo, I stayed there for several hours just chatting with them.

I also enjoyed Le Caveau de L'Isle, 36 rue Saint-Louis en l'Isle 75004. It's a 9 table restaurant, with linen, china, candles... The food was very good, as was the wine, and I felt completely comfortable didng alone.
