Dingle/Ring of Kerry
 

Is Dingle and the Ring of Kerry the same? I can't find a Dingle stop in any of the escorted tours but plenty of Ring of Kerry stops. Please help

They are two adjacent, but different peninsulas in southwest Ireland. I found the Dingle Peninsula more beautiful than the Ring of Kerry (ROK), but find that the ROK has more variety of stops (i.e. stone forts, castles, small towns, scenery, etc...). We did see a LOT of buses in the Dingle peninsula, so somebody is making the route...

After four trips to Ireland, driviing the entire perimeter on three of those visits, my wife and I find Dingle more inviting than any town on the ROK or tourist-crowded Killarney. We loved staying there and traveling the vicinity...and yes, the drive to Dingle is a pretty one. Ireland lends itself to self-drive, IMO. Think about it.

My hubby and I drove the perimeters of both the ROK, and the Dingle Peninsula. Like Tower, we both loved Dingle the most. We drove over lots of the south west of Ireland, and again I agree with Tower--Ireland is best seen by self-drive.

However you travel, I hope that you have a lovely trip.

How could Dingle and Ring of Kerry be the same? They are not Disney rides. There are a few CIE tours that include Dingle.

There are six of us going so I thought an escorted tour would be best. If it was just my husband and myself I would do a self drive like we did in Italy.
I do not see any CIE tour for 2008 so far stopping in Dingle. Would they call it something else? Irish Eyes -Since I have never been to Ireland before how would I know unless I ask about Dingle and the Ring of Kerry, there was no need to get sarcastic. This is a forum for finding out all sorts of information. I want to thank all who gave me sound advice.

I would suggest heading to your library for some travel books before you ask more questions. I'm not being sarcastic, just means you will narrow down what you are asking.

The official name of Dingle is An Daingean. Really. That is true and is not sarcastic. You can even look at the internet to be sure I am not pulling your leg. Everyone on this forum always says that planning the trip is half the fun. CIE has two tours that visit Dingle or An Daingean. Happy hunting. www.cietours.com

I've read a trip report by: chip : and he tells of taking a small group of family or friends to Ireland and they rented a small bus and hired their own driver. It sounded as if they had a wonderful time. Up a the top of the page where it says : search: type in chip and see if you can pull up that report.

Irish Eyes- Thanks for the info, unforturnately the only two are 11 and 12 day tours and we need either 8 or 9 day. We are going to Glasgow for a bagpipe festival as one in our group has a nephew playing. I am going to look into renting a small bus as suggested and other tour companies. Thanks for everyone's help. If you think of anymore ideas just let me know
